| People: Me and Bruce (late player)
Pts: 2500
Mission: Take and Hold (Gamma)
Sides: Marines w/ traits vs. Blood Angels
Forces: Look at my list in the list section.
Blood Angels
Dante Corbulo (who is really scary in the middle of the army) Honor Guard w/ the works Honor Guard w/ the works Veteran Assault Squad*10, combat shields (all), 2 pw Venerable Dread (multi-melta[old model]) Venerable Furioso Deathcompany Dread Techmarine Death Company*6, jetpacks Assault Squad*5 Marine Squad*5, plasma gun Bikes*3, 2 plasmaguns Bikes*3, 2 plasmaguns Devastators*5, 2 plasma cannons Baal Predator, heavy flame sides, hunter killer missile Land Raider
Deployment:
My Devastators got sat in a corner in hard cover, Dreads behind area terrain.
Venerable Dread, Baal Predator, Techmarine, both Honor Guard, and Land Raider got put on the left flank. Bikes put between center and left. Dante, Corbulo, Assault Squad, Veteran Assault Squad, Tactical Marines, and Death Company put in center. Bikes between center and right flank. Devastators put on right flank. My scouts put on right flank in terrain. Bruce got first turn.
Turn 1:
Bruce moved everything in the center towards the middle of the board. Ven. Dread moved to half hidden behind cover, Baal completly behind it. Techmarine in base contact with Ven. Dread. Shooting - Land Raider and everything else with range and LOS (not much) shot at my Devestators. Still managed to kill 3. Bruce's Devestators then shot at my scouts and killed 2. Both attempted morale checks, both fled about 4".
My turn: I moved my Dreads from behind cover to shoot at the enemy. Scouts and Devastators rallied and moved the obligatory 3" (had to read morale and We shall no know fear several times to make sure I could do this). Dreads shot at both enemy Dreads. Immobolized the Furioso (whew!) and shook the Ven. . Scouts shot at enemy Dev's, killed 1, My Dev's shot and did nothing.
Turn 2:
Bruce moved onto the center of the board and closer to my Devastators, while one Honor Guard rushed to fix the Immobolized Furioso (damn Tech-Adepts). Death Company was closest to my side followed by: Assault Squad, Vet Assault Squad, Dante, Corbulo, Marines, Furioso. Shooting commenced and saw one Dread die, the other Immobolized (behind area terrain ) one more Devie die, and 2 more scouts join the Emporer.
My turn: Moved all of my Dev's back into terrain. Fun time for Pods to come in, only two landed (Doh!). Placed them some distance from DC, both scattered to surround the DC (Super Doh!) Two Plasma gun squads jumped out and shot at DC (only viable target). Did absolutely nothing! Scouts shot at Dev's and killed 2. High Point of the turn was when my remaining Dread shot the Baal's Assault Cannon off and Immobolized it.
Turn 3:
Bruce moved all of his assault units so they could best completely destroy my 20 dropped marines. Death Company moved towards plasma gun/pf squad, as did Dante. Vet. Assault Squad moved towards plasma gun/pw squad, as did Corbulo, and normal Assault Squad. Bikes moved towards downed pod, Honor Guard came in contact with Furioso. Other Bikes moved towards my Devestators. Shooting saw all but 2 Dev's drop, as well as all but 3 scouts, and a marine each from the dropped squads. Bruce charged his bikes into my Dev squad and got two killed as the result with no losses on my side. I wasted too much luck there. The rest of the assault phase was terrible! Corbulo gave every unit Furious Charge and Dante gave them all Preffered Enemy! That is a deadly combo. After the turn of rending DC, pwing Vet Assault, and loads of attacks from all fronts, both units were completely decimated before they got the chance to strike! Everyone moved to consolodate thier position.
My turn: Luckily, the rest of my Pods came in, but the Land Speeder decided to remain on the Thunderhawk circling above. Command Squad landed smack dab in the middle of the board, with the meltagun, pf squad supporting them on the right flank. My squad with no special weapon landed really closely to Dante and popped out in prime rapid firing position. The unit with the Librarian (flamer/pw) landed 8" away from Dante and 9" from everyone else. In shooting, my Dread shot away the enemy's multi-melta, and the scouts reduced the Devastators to one. The meltagun/pf squad opened up on Corbulo, as I did not want any more furious charge. I dealt a lot of wounds to him with the meltagun missing (as is custom). After making his saves, Corbulo took 3 wounds, the magic number! But then Bruce used the Exsanguinator to ignore one. Nooooooo! The Command Squad shot at the Veteran Assault Squad and decidedly melted one with their meltagun. The non special weapon squad shot at Dante (a lot) and managed to put a wound on him. The flamer/Libbie squad shot at Dante and failed to do anything. Of course I shot the Libbie's bolt pistol and forgot to use a power. In the assault phase the remaining bike and my 2 devastators did nothing.
Turn 4:
When the Tech-Adepts put thier knowledge to work they did - nothing. Corbulo did not like having to heal himself and decided to give Dante furious charge by moving closer to him. The DC and Assault Squad moved close to my Libbie's squad. Dante decided to face the squad without the special weapon. The remaining bike squad moved closer to my Command Squad as did the Marine Squad, who did nothing this turn. Bruce put the Vet Assault Squad between my Command Squad and my melta/pf squad to assault them both.
In shooting nothing happened but Dante killed one of the squad he was to assault. In the assault phase Dante charged the non-special squad, the DC and Assault Squad charged the Libbie's squad, the Vet Assault Squad and the Bikes charged the Command Squad and the melta/pf squad. Everyone had furious charge and prefered enemy except for the bikes. Dante ran in and slaughterd 5 marines on the spot. The remaining marines decided that they did not think Dante was playing fairly and attacked back and took his two remaining wounds off! But Corbulo stepped in and said "I'll help you Dante" After that my sergeant promptly responded "Oh no you don't" and took off Dante's arm and head with his power sword. Commendations to that unit!.
The battle with my Epistolary did not go as well with the entire squad, plus the Familiar dying (the Epistolary himself was not in B2B with anyone) No one died on the other side. The assault on the Command Squad did not go well for Bruce. All that happened was my Commander sneezed and missed 2 attacks followed by 2 missed wounds and 2 missed re-rolls! His squad did much better and only took one wound (poor meltagunner). The bikes did absolutely nothing and my Tactical Squad took out 2 Vets. Then my sergeants with the power fists were up. They took out 4 Vets between them. Bruce lost combat, failed his morale check, failed to get away and took another wound, which he saved.
Once again, the bike and two Dev's did nothing to each other.
My turn: My Land Speeder came in and landed right on target. The marines fresh from killing Dante headed for Corbulo. My scouts finished off the final Devastator with a few well placed sniper rounds (oh, and a krak missile ). The Land Speeder shot at the Honor Guard squad trying to repair the Furiouso. Nothing. The Sergeant who took Dante's head shot at Corbulo, as well as the remaining Drop Pods (3 had died at this point to random things, meltagun, plasma pistols, things like that). Corbulo survived, of course. Then the assault phase. The marines charged Corbulo. Nothing happened between the bike and the Devastators, the Epistolary took down one DC before succumbing to rending jagged Chainsword death and my normal marines in squad We kill IC's took down Corbulo.
My Commander did a little better and managed to take down one Veteran, but they responded by taking thier power weapons and gutting his command squad. Before they died, the apothecary and the Company Champion took down the second to last Veteran. The Veteran took a morale check, failed, failed to escape the wrathful commander, took three more wounds and finally died. The tactical squad sent what attacks remained (and were in range) against the bikes and took them all out.
Everyone consolodated by the center of the board, except for the marines who added Corbulo's head to thier collection. They decided to die heroically holdin off the Assault Squad and the death company.
Turn 5:
Bruce's Tech-Adepts do know how to do stuff. They fixed the Baal's turret, and the Dread's arm. The marines hanging out behind the combat moved foward to shoot at my only scoring unit left, my melta/pf squad.
Shooting resulted in a lot going at the Land Speeder which threatened the Furioso. The Assault Cannon got shot to pieces. The Marines used thier plasma gun to knock one more marine out of the squad near the Commander.
The Assault phase had the bike and my Dev's doing nothing, the Assault Marines and DC ruining my poor squads chances of holding them off. In return, my powersword wielding sergeant took 2 DC's lives.
My turn: Rushing because of the time, I moved my Land Speeder behind the Furioso to try to take it out, scouts moved out of cover to help out in the center. My Commander decided to try to show some mettle and moved towards the Tactical Squad with the plasma gun, and my melta/pf squad moved to shoot the Assault Squad.
Shooting: Nothing went well, the Assault Squad remained above half, the Land Speeder missed all of its shots, and the Drop Pods did, predictably, nothing.
The Assault Phase was worse, proving how inept my Commander was. He charged the Tactical Marines with 5 attacks - 1 hit, and that failed to wound, even with the re-roll!
Turn 6:
30 sec. left in the game. Bruce just moved all of his stuff closer to the center of the board.
End
Big learning curve for me. If the dice gods seem not to favor you, don't pull anything so risky as staying just out of assault range of the DC. And hope the Commander does a lot better in combat. Must remember to use psychic powers, and must remeber to send the squad with no special weapons against IC's . |

| Seems like it didn't go toooo badly.
Like you said, you seemed to have learned a lot. Very interesting read, thanks for posting!
Tell your friend about the site! I'd love to hear about his army, I have thought of doing Blood Angels myself! _________________ Dark Angels 1750 win/loss Record Win - 22 (The Dark Angels wiped some silly pod marines) Loss - 13 (Brice's Necrons wiped me) Draw - 2 (The 13th hold out in alpha take and hold)

| | One thing I definantly learned, Blood Angels are far more than what people make them out to be looking at the codex, especially if everyone (just about) is given furious charge and preffered enemy (all). |

A solid read Nathan. Those dice can be fickle.
You still have plenty of time for practice.

| I might not report that battle Frostwolf. Your marines do love you. Suffice to say, our second battle was a bit embarrasing for my marines . _________________ Insanity is only measured by those around you.

| Still, pretty sad for my marines. I'm certain if we keep going on like this we will contest CJ for the title of thread killer. _________________ Insanity is only measured by those around you.
