The Herald of Plagues

Subject: The Herald of Plagues Wed Feb 13, 2008 1:35 am

Players: Me and Danny

Forces: Space Marines and combo; Nurgle & unmarked CSM

10 Veterans, 3 pfs, meltagun, ccws
10 Scouts, 9 sniper rifles, 1 missile launcher
10 Marines, pf, meltagun, Drop Pod
10 Marines, pf, meltagun, Drop Pod
Land Raider

Nurgle & unmarked
Typhus & 4 terminator retinue (I think they had combi-meltas, may be wrong)
6 terminators w/ combi-meltas
10 Plague Marines, 2 plasma guns, powerfist, Rhino
10 Plague Marines, 2 plasma guns, powerfist, Rhino
Land Raider

5 Havocs, 3 lascannons

Mission: Gamma Recon

Set up: Danny sets up Havocs in cover with decent sight of my lines, land raider and defiler off to left w/ one Rhino, other Rhino on other side of Havocs in cover. My land raider goes dead center (nothing to hide behind) w/ Master next to it, Scouts go into magic circle thing off to far left w/ side shot of defiler.

Turn 1: Danny gets first turn
Danny moves everything forward full speed except the Land Raider, which moves half speed. Defiler shoots battlecannon at scouts, scatters, and kills two. Havocs shoot at land raider, hit twice, penetrate twice, and destroy it. Vets come tumbling out, 3 roast alive in the twisted wreck that was once a Land Raider. Danny's Land Raider opens fire and evaporates one of the vets. Vets pass pinning test and morale test.
Vets move forward, preparing thier meltagun, Master moves forward through difficult terrain, Scouts stand still and prep their weapons. Scouts open fire on Defiler, 6 sniper rifle hits. Casually rolling and telling Danny nothing after each roll. Danny looks relieved. Then I tell him I still have a missile launcher. Look on Danny's face is hilarious. Roll 6, 6, 5. Dead Defiler. Vets penetrate Rhino and blow off the weapon. Master pops shots at Plague Marines tumbling out and kills one of them. Vets charge the Rhino and conveniantly hit the Plague Marines as well (Danny's back hatch was against terrain). Vets tear apart all but 2 Plague Marines and lose one in return. Plague Marines outnumbered and one falls to that.

Turn 2:
Danny checks for Terminators, nothing. Land Raider sits still, but Typhus and co. pop out and head for Vets overwhelming Plague Marine. Other Rhino rushes for my table edge. Land Raider liquifies my Master (who got stuck in the middle of nowhere somehow). Nothing else for shooting. Typhus and posse move into vets, rolls 6, has 10 attacks, slaughters everyone single-handedly, Massacres 4" back towards Land Raider, Plague Marine moves closer to his Rhino.
One Drop Pod comes in, lands next to Typhus' Land Raider. Scouts shoot at last Plague Marine, kill him. Fresh Marine Squad opens up on Typhus, Danny laughs off all shots.

Turn 3:
Danny forgets about Terminators, I do too. Land Raider pivots and moves away from deadly Meltagun. Havocs move towards other side of cover. Rhino heads for other Rhino (or something, can't really remember how it gets there). Plague Marines pop out to double tap on Marines (just out of range). Land Raider obliterates two Marines, Typhus' retinue shoots 3 others to death. Typhus charges in and rolls the deadly one, takes the wound does nothing. Retinue kills two Marines as they drag down a Terminator. Marines pass Ld.
Deathwing Squad (w/ attached Librarian) comes down, as well as other Drop Pod. Deathwing squad lands behind already settled Drop Pod, other one lands in front of Havoc's cover, next to Plague Marines. Scouts shoot at Plague Marines kill one. Fresh Marine squad shoots at Plague Marines kills a few (not sure how many). Deathwing squad fires at Land Raider and rends it to explosive destruction. Typhus again rolls the deadly one, takes another wound, his retinue either miss or fail to wound. Marines do nothing in return.

Turn 4:
Danny's Terminators come in, close to fresh Marine Squad. Havocs move out from behind Drop Pod. Plague Marines move to assault Marines. Plague Marines and Terminators shoot at Marines, bring down two. Plague Marines charge Marines and 2 die to Marine hands before they can strike. The Plague Marines take 2 Marines in vengeance. Powerfists from both squads swing, mine kill a Plague Marine, Danny's misses. End of round 6 Marines to 3 Plague Marines. Typhus rolls a five this time and (with the help of his retinue) eliminate the rest of the Marines they were fighting. Massacre towards Deathwing squad (who happen to be in Danny's deployment zone).
Deathwing move toward Typhus and posse. Scouts fire on Terminators that are about to assault Marines in combat w/ Plague Marines, and kill one. The Deathwing open up on Typhus' retinue and bring one down. Then they charge in (and keep Typhus out of combat). They end up bringing Typhus' retinue down and lose one Terminator in return. Marines kill two more Plague Marines and lose one in return.

Turn 5:
Havocs move to a good view of the clash of the titans (Terminator v. Terminator). Other Terminators move to help out the last Plague Marine on field. They charge in and squishify a Marine or two in their terrible charge, but the Marines first wipe out the last Plague Marine. After that slaughter, the Vet. Sergeant w/ the powerfist crushes the chest of a Terminator. Typhus swings his Man-Reaper in a deadly arc and slices a Terminator in two, stopping his deadly swing wounding the Librarian. The Deathwing can do nothing in return as Typhus pulls his deadly blade into a defensive posture.
The scout squad decides it is the time to move and head toward Danny's board edge. Everywhere else it is a swirling maelstrom of hand to hand fighting. The Terminator squad starts off and crushes all but the Veteran Sergeant with thier crackling power mauls. The Veteran Sergeant in return swings his power fist and ruins all but two of the enemy Terminators. Typhus again swings Man-Reaper, but the Deathwing are prepared for it this time. One Marines steps forward and takes the blow on his Crux Terminataus, which shatters on impact, slowing Typhus strike, but not enough to save the valiant Marine. In vengeance the Librarian swings with his coruscating Force Axe at Typhus head, but a foul swarm of Nurglings appear from the hive of pestilance all about Typhus and protect the Herald of Plagues soul from being sent screaming into the warp.

Turn 6:
The Havocs look on with envy as their master steps forward to slay the last of the Deathwing, not noticing the blurred shapes of Scouts in the distance, moving toward thier main base...
Elsewhere the Terminators have taken enough punishment from the last remaining Space Marine of the squad they had expected to wipe out. In a brilliant tactical manouvre, they encircled the lone Marine and beat him to death with blinding power mauls before he could raise his powerfist in defiance. Typhus prepared his Man-Reaper for the last time, believing the battle to be over. As he swung his great blade one Terminator bull-rushed him, and though he was cut into several piles of steaming offal, he gave his last remaining bretheran, the Librarian and the brother given care of the sacred Assault Cannon, enough time to crush Typhus' chest and send his soul back to Grandfather Nurgle. With this grim task completed, the Librarian and the last of the Deathwing headed out to slay the onlooking Havocs. There was very little of a fight to be had from them, and as the last light of the sun struck the world, the Librarian sensed that their mission had been completed successfully, with several of their scouting company able to reconniter the enemy Headquarters. With a brief signal to the ThunderHawk Gunship circling in the atmosphere above, he rested easy, knowing they were one step closer to another of the Fallen.

Nathan: 1775
Danny: 1305

Nice batrep. There is a lot to take in.

I'd do a small fluff blurb at the beginning and a small one at the end too (from the same sides perspective). Then just do short blurbs to explain the action.

You guys seriously don't realize how disinterested I am in everything. I can find a better waste of my time with what small impact I have on this world than doing pointless little things that don't concern me. And the best part is I think this way without being depressed (or any other emotion for that matter).
