Or does anyone know what to use for good stand ins? Can be non-GW too.

Yeah I've seen people use them. Too bulky for my tastes.

I'm thinking I will use some of the old catachan models (the skinnier metal ones).

Yeesh this is going to be tough!

Anyone got ideas from other model ranges?

does it have to be GDW? There are some models made for Warlords that might work well. It has been a while since I played the game, so I don't remember what army it was, sorry.

eBayed my spare metal catchans years ago.

Origins is comming up. The scrounging quantity or quality varies year from year but the last couple have been good for mini's. Gencon has also generally been great for mini's, the unsold auction store is sweet.

GW put out some Norse-like raiders for WFB. I bet with some conversions they'd look really good.
