| I've been reading and lurking for a while, so I thought I'd get social and say Hi. My son and I have been collecting for awhile, and we hope to get out and have some battles soon - we are getting quite a pile of troops. We stopped by the tourney for awhile and watched some battles.
I am hoarding a mob of Orks, and my son is doing Ultramarines & IG so we will have questions about rules and stuff. Hopefully we'll get to Yotta or SciFi City some morning so some of you can break us in (or blow us up).
My son has posted a couple of times as "racer8". We have Marine & Ork codexes and an old rule book (#2?) and we are waiting for the 'big release' to get something more current. |

Presuming the next book is as well written hit it hard. Some of us will be needing to transition into the new rule-set and rule hick-ups are probably going to occur. Happens to myself.
Welcome, hope to game with you both. |

Yes, I was about to get us a 'current' rulebook when I found this list and all the buzz on the new 5th ed. Will it really change the game that much? or just thousands of little minutae (that will change the fate of the galaxy). Certainly GW plans to make and sell cool new stuff. |

| While 3rd to 4th was a sizable change, 4th to 5th seems to be an even bigger change. _________________ Dark Angels 1750 win/loss Record Win - 22 (The Dark Angels wiped some silly pod marines) Loss - 13 (Brice's Necrons wiped me) Draw - 2 (The 13th hold out in alpha take and hold)

| 4th was little more than the trial "Close Combat" and "Vehicle" changes they put out for testing. That and the rules were rewritten to be more readable.
Besides it will be the small change that will be the worste. Simple rule clarrifications that are no more but we somehow remember seeing it. |

| there were a few more pretty sizable changes. rapid fire being one of them, and vehicle dismount then charges changed a lot too. _________________ Dark Angels 1750 win/loss Record Win - 22 (The Dark Angels wiped some silly pod marines) Loss - 13 (Brice's Necrons wiped me) Draw - 2 (The 13th hold out in alpha take and hold)

That's a matter of our perspectives. It's not as if there is an absolute on this topic.
Personally I am pretty comfortable saying the only big changes were the trial Assault Rules and Vehicles. Open top-vehicle charges for instance actually didn't change much for Space Marines because of the Power Armor caviot. My Storm Troopers only used open-top rules to get closer for plasma showers.| Matt wrote: | | rapid fire being one of them, | The other changes like rapid fire double-taps weren't that big of change. As least as far as I am concerned. Maybe a bigger deal for Plasma toting Storm Troopers as one extreme but not even the Tau Fish-of-Fury tactic has ever really impressed me in game. Space Marines generally charge low armor and average toughness infantry.| Matt wrote: | | and vehicle dismount then charges changed a lot too. | I believe that was covered in the trail vehicle rules part.
4th ED really was 3.5 trial rules tweaked. I'm just hoping the jump in 5th will NOT feel like 3rd was to 2nd. Because 3rd when it started really sucked. We're talking about when Terminators costed 50 points a model and had no invulnerable save. |
