This is sorta an army makeup / rules question, so please bear with me.

Do Terminator squads generally consists of units bearing one uniform weapon (i.e. everyone with duel lightning claws or thunderhammer & storm shield)? Does anyone recommend one over the other? Thanks in advance!

I think that with terminators, you can mix and get away with it.

Dark Angels are the only terminators that can mix completely. With Regular marines there are dedicated types of terminator squad.

It all depends on the role you want them to play. I think terminators need to be able to perform in shooting and assault though. So regular vanilla terminators are good imo.

5 men

1 with power weapon and a storm bolter
1 with power fist and an assault cannon (just 1 as this will change from 2 to 1 with the new book)
and lastly 3 with a power fist and a storm bolter

I am a firm believer that Terminators need Power Fist. With lightning claws you can the advantage of Intitive 4 and re-rolling to wound. The power fist gives you double strength and Intitive 1. So you have to ask yourself what is swinging at the Intitive step of 4, 3, or 2 that scares terminators? The answer nothing, IMO. The 2+ armour save will ward off any basic trooper attacks. The scary things all go at Int 5 or higher, indepent characters, harlies, genestealers, deamon princes, hive tyrants, etc. So when you swing you might as well make it count.

That is why I like the mix, having 1 LC and 1 PW seems like a good mix.

I'm still of the opinion that terminators shoot and deny flanks better than they fare in close combat.

Unless they are going up against Snikrot and Company with Burnas that are "power" weapons
Those termies should watch their backs!

If any marine player ever has terminators in the back close enough to be charged by snikrot.... then... well... they should quit.

Who said anything about the back? Any side! What if they deepstrike to a side or my deployment...

big fiery guns mounted on tanks
snipers
clowns

Sure each army has it's specialization in war but the ORKS specialize in WAR!!!
