Primer in a Pinch Empty
PostSubject: Primer in a Pinch   Primer in a Pinch EmptyTue May 13, 2008 8:47 am

So for this tournament coming up, im not going to have everything painted... at all..

i have some stuff done, but jetbikes, vyper, farseer, and autarch are not even primed!

in a pinch i could borrow something, or use a matte black spray, but i want them primed white.

would gesso work?
matte white? (lances, my local art store, is all out!)

lemme know!

You won't be happy w/ Gesso. I know some that use it but to do it right you need to thin it and apply a couple layers.

You can prime black and then overspray white. This is a technique used to keep your shadows but really create some dramatic highlights.

Here is an example....

I'm also of the opinion that most folks will spend $20+ on a box of minis but complain about spending $6 for some primer that will last for several hundred bucks worth of figs.

For me I love Tamiya Fine Light Grey Primer. About $7 for a small size can but smooooth.

haha i wish i could.. its just i can't get to the store. my white spray primer is at home and you can't ship aerosol.

so.. i guess i will grab matte black then spray white later.

just gonna be weird spraying a mostly white army black..

is flat white OK? could i spray primer white over a matte white?

Most primer is matte/flat. I think you'll be fine unless the matte is really grainy.

Timya Spays work great. At $4 bucks a can....they sit on your model like silk. It's what I used on my Knights and Nids.
