Can you guys offer some advice I just dont seem to be able to find a happy medium to be able to take on all forces. I just need help figuring out what I have been doing wrong. Any advice would be greatful.

Against me your biggest fault was dropping so many shots into the terminators, it allowed the rest of my army to move around a lot. They were not really a major threat to you anyway.

Also, moving out the way you did at the end would have really burned you if another turn would have been rolled. Quite a risk considering you didn't really need to do it.

Other than that, you just need to play experience players as much as possible.

Fun game btw!

My success with Tau was all about target priority. Dispatch anything that could reach out and touch you. Next you should put down any dedicated fast, assault units. Mop up and claim objectives turn 5-6 and voila.. easier said than done, but still.

As Matt hinted at you have to avoid the temptation to shoot slow, elite units that present themselves. Any 6" movers can do as they please (Carnifex, Terminators, Dreadnoughts, etc) A cunning opponent will do just that.. plop a juicy 200+pt slogger with a "shoot me" sign on it while other elements get to your backside.

Deployment is important as you want to dictate your firing lanes. Tau are a bit forgiving as most firepower is mobile, however you should still be aware of where the most likely position of his units will deploy. You already have his army list before the game begins so use this when deciding table edge selection for not only favorable positions for your units, but really stuffing his options.

Use them Kroot. They are a cheap, expendable speed bump. Ten Kroot for 70pts is such a steal. They can infiltrate, hold an assault for one turn, trigger target priority checks, provide average small arms fire, etc

A small deep striking unit of Gun Drones can cause a bit of headache. Pinning can really hose a gunline. Another cheap throw away.

I was thinking of running a fully mechanised army with firewarriors mounted with piranahas and hammerheads.

While I think Crisis heavy tau armies are the hardest to deal with, this could be pretty cool.

The carbine unit was also pretty weak, much better to run the rifles. 30" is nothing to scoff at. Let the drones force the pining checks.

I think I will be dropping the Pulse Carbines for Pulse rifles. I am usually with in 12 inches anyways so it would benefit to have the extra shots versus the pinning that never works. But I will be keeping the XV8s. Just going more mechanised.
