PostSubject: Tau marker drones   Thu May 29, 2008 10:55 am

i have been wondering this for a little while... lets say a crisis team,or a stealth team (since the model comes with this unit) takes a marker drone... since they move, can it also move and fire? since the network markerlight is heavy??

Drones are not vehicles, so I am going with a no.

PostSubject: Tau FAQ   Tue Jan 27, 2009 9:43 am

The latest tournament FAQ states that crisis and stealth suit teams who have marker light drones may use them on the move. However, broadside suits equipped with stabilization units may not. So it seems that wargear applies ONLY to the models with the wargear, but inherent unit abilities are transferred to the drones. This is why drones don't benefit from targeting arrays on vehicles. Hope this helps.

That would not be accurate. The stealth suits and crisis suit teams can not move and fire heavies. The drones have similar systems as those suits. So the Drone can not move and shoot using the marker light and network markerlights.

PostSubject: Relentless   Tue Jan 27, 2009 1:44 pm

The 5th edition rulebook specifically states models with Tau jetpacks are also relentless. This allows them to move and fire heavy weapons on the move like bikes and terminators. This is an upgrade from 4th edition. Note, however, broadside suits do not have jet packs. Also note that crisis suits and stealth troops do not have many heavy choices.

Even if the above were not true, (which it is) the FAQ specifically states that the marker light drone for stealth and crisis suits works on the move. The explanation given in my previous post was an attempt to explain the logic behind that ruling and the ruling that units equipped the the stabilization upgrade who have drones cannot move and fire marker lights.

Page 31 of the Tau codex and page 52 of the core rulebook are the keys to this issue.

On page 31 of the Tau codex, in the Drones box, it says: "Unit Type: As owner." This means that if drones are owned by stealth suits which are jump infantry (jet packs), they are also jump infantry (jet packs).

Page 52 of the rulebook contains the rules for jump infantry. Jet pack infantry is relentless.

Drones that come with stealth suits are relentless and can move and shoot rapid fire or heavy weapons.

Drones that come with XV88s are regular infantry and cannot.
