- Dear Valued Customers,
There is an old curse you might know: “May you live in interesting times “
I would be very surprised if anyone could look around our tiny world today and not ponder the truism of such a simple remark. There is very little doubt that these current days would certainly qualify as interesting.
Among many other concerns the world has been struggling with the rising cost of energy, transport, and materials. These rising costs have ultimately affected not only the price of gasoline that we put into our tanks, but the price we pay for milk, eggs and cereal. It has also, not surprisingly perhaps, greatly affected the costs for producing miniatures.
Today we are contacting all of our Trade customers globally to announce that due to these rising costs, we too will be raising some of our prices.
We do not do this lightly. We fully understand that the timing of the price rise directly conflicts with our annual July price review and for that we deeply apologize. I hope that you understand that this price rise is not something Games Workshop Global desires to do, it is something we have to do.
That being said, we wish to approach this change with the same dedication to customer service that we do for every endeavor. So for clarity and fairness I offer the following points:
We are contacting our Trade customers this week to prepare them for any questions they may have.
On Monday August 25th a message informing end hobbyists will be placed on all of our websites.
Prices will change September 29th.
A message will appear in our October White Dwarf.
The price increase will affect part of our paint and hobby ranges, as well as a large portion of our metal models and printed materials.
Even with the pressure of rising costs we are adamant that we will not at this time raise prices on any plastic model kits. Providing high quality, great value kits is fundamental to our corporate strategy and will continue to produce and distribute them at the current prices for as long as we are able.
Sincerely,
Games Workshop

| I would agree, if the level of detail on plastic models was anywhere approaching the level of detail on metals. | |

| I thought that most of us were expecting this with the Assault on Black Reach being $60? | |

| well looking at the Black Reach box at KK and seeing the plastic minis they come with..i believe most of the current metal line could be made plastic.. with the level of detail they deserve... | |

with the level of detail they deserve... Im sorry, this is simply not true, not yet anyway. A few more years maybe plastic will get to the level of details on metal. - Quote :

I don't think they lowered that price and boosted others as a business plan. I'm pretty sure it is as they say, it's just getting more expensive for them.

| I mean, I'll disagree a touch here, Matt. I am certainly one to agree that perhaps the Characters should be metal, due to the increased amount of detail. However...... they could do characters in resin, which SHOULD be less expensive.
I think I'm just still a bit peeved that the Veterans are metal. As far as I'm concerned, they could have done them Dark Angels style and they'd have looked just fine.

| Yeah, whenever aesthetics come into question it is subjective. But I think you'll find as a whole most miniature collectors believe that metals offer superior detail (even over resin).
But as i was saying, it is subjective... and i will agree (at least from a price stand point) it is a bummer to see all these metals.

| Touche'. I won't disagree that the metals can look better. I think both Privateer and--dare I blaspheme--Rackham proved this with their figs. I think my bigger issue is just wishing that models that belong to units could be plastic so they're more easily customizable, as well as less weighty. | |

| Resin holds way more detail then metal. Much sharper. The heat from casting metal caused deformities and swelling/shrinkage. I'd don't have personal experience but it is what I understand from talking to those that do a lot of casting in both materials.
Resin is more toxic and the molds don't hold up for long. That is the reason it is a more expensive process. It isn't the cost of the casting material as much as the long term cost of running the show. I'm not sure that resin can be done in a production run setting. With the number of figs GW sells Resin would be out of the question. |

| I'd have to say that the resin models from FW dominate over any metal models GW puts out. Those resin models have some of the best detail to them. | |

As far as forgeworld items, I personally think that the sculptures are better. Yes the resin does show a lot of detail but the artists at forgeworld are EXTREMLY talented!
