| Welcome to the 'Ard Boyz! The 'Ard Boyz is a series of three tournaments designed to find the best 40k player in the nation. The first tournament, the qualifiers, will be held September 13th. The top three finishers in each tournament will be asked to attend a Regional 'Ard Boyz Semi-Final. Locations will be announced October 11th, 2008. The top three of the Semi-Final will be asked to attend the Finals held in Baltimore on Friday November 14th, 2008.
THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE!
At the qualifier competitors will participate in three games over the course of the day. In each game you will play a scenario and record the outcome of the battle on your result sheet. The first round players will be matched up randomly. All attempts will be made that groups travelling togerhter will not have to play each other. After the first round, players will be matched up according to current rankings in the tournament. Nobody will ever play the same opponent twice. There are NO painting, composition, or sportsmanship scores at 'Ard Boyz.
Army Selection No more than 2,500 points may be used in selection of an army. Only the main amy lists may be used for the army in question. No appendix lists are permitted. Special characters are permitted, subject to the normal restrictions for that character in the Codex. Only armies listed in the Approved Army Lists section may be taken. WYSIWYG will be in effect. Models should start tournament fully assembled. Any conversions must begin as Citadel models and contain a majority of Citadel components. Non-Citadel Models may not be used in the event. Forge World models are permitted in the tournament, but they can only be used to represent models from existing Codex list. No Forge World rules are allowed.
Battles Each 'Ard Boyz tournament will consist of three games of Warhammer 40k for each player. The 5th Edition Rulebook will be in use for all games and will be the definitive guide for all rules. The time limit for each game is 2 1/2 hours (150 Minutes). At the end of this time limit, time will be called and all games must be finished immediately. No additional time will be provided. Note: do not begin a round unless there is ample time for both players to receive their turn! In each game players will play a scenario. Each scenario will have a list of special rules and other information. Players will be informed at the beginning of each round as to what scenario will be used.
PRIZE SUPPORT In addition to qualifying for the Semi-Finals, the YottaQuest 'Ard Boyz Qualifier will be giving away to 1st place a battleforce of your choice, 2nd receives a boxed set of your choice ($40 or less), 3rd receives a blister pack of your choice. If for some reason the top three finishers can not attend the Semi-Finals, the invitation will slip down to fourth place finisher and so on.

| As the above post state there is NO ENTRY FEE. The event is on Saturday September 13th 2008. Start time will be 11:00, PLEASE SHOW UP EARLY. The shop will be open early to accomodate for the event, so don't worry about that, but we will have a strict start time, as this will be a long affair. Preregistration would be awesome, please shoot me an email AND post here. In the email please include your Full Name as well as your Army List. Also I am in need of experienced judges. I would prefer to have at least two, so if anyone is interested please send me an email and post here that you are interested in doing so. Judges will be compensated There are only 30 locations in the world which will be holding the 'Ard Boyz Qualifier so don't miss out! Even though there is no Sportsmanship score, we have some free t-shirts and other goodies to give away so keep that in mind | |

| I am thinking about it, although I will have to change my 13th Co into regular space wolves and add 750 more points. The good news is that they don't make me take a 4th HQ
And not at the Krystal Keep, where the competition will probably be fiercer

| What's up with this 4th HQ thing? I wasn't aware anyone needed even a 3rd HQ.
I looked in Eye of Terror and I can't find anything about needing a 4th HQ there either.

| I'll try to make it but it sounds like you are using kill points which guarantees my guard will not win. Yay for GW thinking things through. | |

| Mike: 13th Company have to take an HQ for every 750 points in their army... which can take them above the normal limit on HQ's
Preter: Hopefully that junk gets fixed come the new guard book.
But I think you will find that the missions for 'Ard Boyz have more than one objective... normally following the Primary, Secondary, Tertiary scheme like in the GT missions. So Killpoints may be one of them, but you'll have other ways to win. Welcome back to the boards by the way man! Where were ya?

I have absolutley zero desire to attend this. Partially due to the points value, but mainly for the fact of inadequate 5th edition terrain readily available. Pics of the games @Yotta will be amusing.

| What do you mean by "inadequate 5th edition terrain"? Seems to me that any terrain could be used and just both players would agree on what it is for puposes of traversing and seeing through it. I've played game's at home, forgotten terrain and just cut felt and paper and used that lol. | |

All well and good for a friendly game, but in 5th true LOS is important, and even more so for competitive play... and 'ard boyz is certainly that.

| They have a fair amount of terrain at Yotta Quest. They don't have a lot of trees as far as I saw but they have a lot of hills and ruins for use. I actually thought that they may have had too much of the hilly terrain but it should be good for the amount of people they can host in the store. | |

| Ah I forgot about the "true LOS" thing thanks for reminding me.
Lol yeah we have quite a bit of hill stuff, It's mainly this old stuff called geohex that people use to cover the whole 4x6 area to create some real variety of scenes.

| It should be noted that page 22 of the 5th edition rulebook does have detailed rules for area terrain. It isn't like it doesn't exist anymore (a lot of people seem to act like that's the case).
The only real difference in 5th is that models can see/fire all the way through area terrain instead of just 6" in. That is a fairly big difference, but otherwise it is exactly the same. It still confers 4+ cover, and is the only reliable way to get cover from indirect fire like an earthshaker.
Whatever. It makes little difference to me. I hated the crap anyway. I always knock over the little trees by accident. Down with area terrain.
