PostSubject: Serephim help   Mon Aug 18, 2008 9:42 am

I have Serephims in my army. Since they are jump packs they are "off" the ground and only have a thin piece of metal between the base and model. As anyone can imagine I have 3 that have broken and when I glue them back to the thin pieces it doesn't look that good. It does not hold very well and ends up breaking again. Is there anything I can do to fix it permanently?

I've seen a lot of different things that people have done to fix this type of thing. If there is enough space to use a pin vise, you could always pin them in place, putting a rod of copper in that could hold it in place. If there's not enough room for a pin where they connect, you could always sculpt some smoke from the jump pack, and put a pin in that and just have them not connect to the base...

Or, if that doesn't tickle your fancy, you could even put a pin into their backs to the base, and have them hovering that way. Then, just paint the pin to quasi-blend into the model/base.

Don't know if this helps at all, but those are the ways I would attempt to fix the situation! Smile

Those were great suggestions, I really liked the one about the smoke. Now, how would I do that?

Depends on how you want it to look, I guess. You could use green stuff to sculpt it, that would be rather intensive and require a bunch of green stuff. The idea I had for my Assault Marines this:

1) put the pins in place on the base where you need them to be (using the fig to determine where they need to be)
2) get a can of this: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=15634-236-230612&lpage=none and SLOWLY spray the foam onto the pins, bringing the sprayer up as you spray it, and it moves up the pin basically.
This stuff is sculptable once it dries, using a serrated knife, but it is MESSY, so be careful what you wear and where you use it, as it does NOT like coming off of clothes/furniture.
3) then, attach the vents of the jump pack to the tops of the pins so it looks like the foam is coming out of them. You could even paint the foam, probably, to look more like smoke...

This could very well work, I haven't tried it yet, but eventually, as I get more Assault Marines, I'm going to try it.
