Rockin.... but then I bought in knowing this was coming. I like a lot of the rules but I'm still too much of a Noob to understand if they are overpowered.

The drop pods strike looks solid.

It's got some nice things, but I can see the potential for cries of "cheese" to be flung around. Pretty much expected though. Last note: Waaaaaay too many characters. Not that it's a bad thing, but too much.

Very nice book. Balanced the Tactical Squads quite well.

I want those Typhoon Launchers for Dark Angels asap Laughing

really nice codex, lots of nice art, lots of cool new things, but i had hoped they wouldn't do it and they did...unlike the old marine codex, and the space wolf codex, this new one doesn't have just a wargear list for everyone to choose from, instead they went and tried to smash all the options into every character and squads entry...just looks kinda poor and makes it harder to read...just my 2 cents

Dooley and I played with some stuff from the new codex on Saturday already. I've looked at it pretty extensively too.

There are some cool toys in it, but it really isn't overpowered at all. I would say it brings vanilla marines up to par with Blood Angels and Dark Angels.

The sternguard vets are probably going to see a lot of play. 10 AP3 bolters is no joke.

The pie plates on the techmarine and such are pretty cool, but they are one shot, and that really balances them out.

Marneus is not all that great. For all the cries of cheese I've been hearing, he isn't all that amazing. He's 275 pts alone and he needs a retinue or he's completely useless. Even then, I wouldn't say he's any better than Dante or Azrael.

Old Vanilla marines were far far better than current DA's imo. I think this brings them up to more eldar like levels. Maybe not quite as competitive, but close imo.

I guess we'll see over the next few months.

Here's the thing I've noticed about DA.

If you try to play regular marines with the DA codex, i.e. you use a bunch of tactical squads and predators and such, you are pretty much shafting your army. The vanilla codex is and always was better.

But if terminators and land raiders is the name of the game, then the DA codex rules.
