OK since I now have a little bit of time out of the house I am going to start playing 40K again. That being said I have plenty of time at the house to play, but no board available to me.
I brought this topic up last year or earlier this year and I never followed through with it. So here is my new plan of action that hopefully people will get on board with if they would like to play Vassal 40K.
I have taken the last 2 weeks and pretty much picked this thing apart. The learning curve is pretty steep, but very short. Basically saying once you learn the features its pretty smooth sailing. If you would like to see what it looks like just follow my link for the Battle Report in my signature below. It will give you a good look at the versatility of the program.
I hate to type a bunch and I think it slows the game down, but in a necessary evil to play Vassal....unless you use a headset. I am going to post my Ventrilo server below anyone is welcome to use it as long as things are kept in order. If you dont know what Ventrilo is let me explain a little. It is a program most MMO (Massive Multi-Player Online) players use to talk while playing the game so their hands are free to do other things and most importantly you dont have to type everything you want to say, you just say it. It is very easy to use and very light on the computer usage and runs in the background. To start out you need a computer microphone and some speakers. Not to difficult seeing how 95% of computers come with some type. I prefer a headset because desktop microphones unless the are a high quality pick up a lot of background noise and then the sound comes out of the computer speakers and disturbs other people around you or the sleeping children for some of you guys.
I will only play when I am able to talk to someone so that may limit me with some of you guys if you are not willing to get Ventrilo (as a side note this program is great you can talk to anyone in the world just like they are sitting next to you). But here is my proposal I will try to get Matt to add a Vassal 40K section to the Forums. There we can plan games and answer any questions that come up. I am willing to play a 750 point game with anyone who want to learn and help lower the learning curve needed to play. Some people think playing this is very impersonal and I agree, but when you are able to talk to people and joke around just like you were sitting at a table is a good time. One other feature is that you are able to "Observe" games while they are being played. So we can all get together in a Ventrilo channel and watch a couple people play some games. It will also be great if I ever get my campaign rules done. People will be able to get their games in 24/7 which is HUGE for a campaign to run smoothly.
So in Summery:
1. I will help anyone who want to learn to play. Just PM me a time and we will work to get it done.
2. On your end, you need the Vassal Engine, 40K Module, Ventrilo, either a desktop microphone or a headset, 750 point 40K list and about 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
If anyone needs help setting up Ventrilo just PM me with questions and we will try to work it out. If you need help setting up Vassal we will get Ventrilo working and do it without all this damn typing.

This server is currently unused so it will just be CAG players but there are still a few rules that apply.
Server Rules: Have respect for the other people in there, It can get a nasty and raunchy as you like, but if there are other people in the same channel as you you need to keep it clean especially if there are minors. If you have a problem with someone PM their username and I will talk to them, and if a warning is needed I will tell them. If it persists I will ban them.
