Language: English (change)

Heya guys, I've been out of town for the holidays And on my return I see there have been some issues with BO and the like. So before feelings get hurt I'll post my guide to turn you into a cool gamer, with out having to sell your soul to Chaos.

1: Personal hygiene

Guys stink, It's a simple fact, and not just gamers. The same funk that happens at ye ole gaming table happens at the sports bar and Sunday afternoon football pow-wows. So don't feel that you're all alone. Here are Some tips to turn you from a spawn of nurgle into something Slaanesh would envy.

A. Know your enemy, and yes it's your own body. All men have the mutant ability of being immune to their own funk. If we weren't we'd wake up, gag a little and die. So never depend on your nose, it will betray you every time.

B. Spend 1/3 as much time getting yourself ready as you do getting your army ready. Your ready to go, but ask your self something. "Did I brush everything? Wash everything? Eat? Sleep enough?" There is no point in having a great looking army when you look, smell and feel like a Plague victim.

C. So how you do the above? Well I'm glad you asked, kiddo. First, take a bath, even if you feel clean. Use the time to relax before the game. Clear your mind and focus. Use the time to think about your army fluff or something else, don't think about strategies or army builds, that will make you rush.

D. Brush your self over. Your Army looks ace and so should you. Hair and teeth don't brush them-selves. I find humming a tune while doing this makes it a little less boring. Be sure not to choke on tooth-paste though!

E. Eat and Sleep Gaming is a test of skill, and like any test, You need proper food and rest, before hand. One thing I learned in life is that a starving, sleep deprived foe, is a soon beaten one. A well rested and fed foe, on the other hand, will be thinking clearly and be that much harder to fight.

F.If you have a lady-friend (or guy friend), have them check you over. A simple "how do I look and smell" can save you from a world of shame!

G. Find a cologne, you like and wear it. I use Chrome, because it works wonders when meeting people. But I've found that Curve for men works almost as good for 1/5th the price. Get one of the gift packs that come with the cologne, deodorant and lotion. and you'll be all set.
(Asking the sales person what she/he suggests, is a good way to work on communication, and flirtation skills BTW. They will lay it on really thick to try and make a sale.)

H. DON'T RUSH!!! At best you'll be five min late anyways. At worst You'll get yourself, or somebody else killed. In the end it's just a game, If you crash Because of rushing. I'll come peck at your guts, and you don't want that do you?

I. We all have our favorite gaming shirt. Make sure it's clean, All this is moot if you go and put on the same old stinky shirt. If in doubt, Wash it out!

So to sum up part 1.

Wash your Orky Parts.

Eat, sleep and don't rush.

Carry a travel pack.

And don't go through all this work and ruin it by wearing that same ole stinky shirt.

Surgeon General's warning: NEVER, EVER, EVER, mix cologne and body funk. And make sure, if your a male, your cologne says "for men". You represent the store, the hobby and Manly Men everywhere. Don't let us down!

I just don't understand why it's mostly gamers that are nasty. Why is that? Ive been gaming for about 2 years now, and this is where the nastys are, is it because they spend so much time painting, reading, typing, they just forget?

I do think you all have made your point in the last few days. Im sure the one or two people that are stinkys know now. Razz

I'm putting in my 2 pennies
I think it's good that we can all talk about this amongst each other and that we can have some humor about it

It's not just gamers -
it happens too that many of the "Other" people who have BO problems also have many of the same single minded habits that gamers tend to favor
one of whic is a slight
Socially backward development process
Engineers are a sterotypical example

I've found that for the most part it's of one of 2 camps
1)
poor upbringing by neglectful or abusive parenting
2)
poor social skills lacking maturity caused by the above or developmental disadvantages like ASPERGERS Syndrome or Pervasive Development disorder

In my experience as a Community Center Director and some time Tournament organizer-
a Frank, Healthy and NON-abusive talking to with the offender is often the best and most effective way to handle the siuation
bannings and riducule (While on the forums can be funny) are counter productive in person

As proffesional as this all sounds, I still smell the "Stench" and see more nastys at Game Stores, then anywhere else. Seems as though the smelly one, always win. Cool

Way back when I went to Yotta, my wife was in there talking to a D&D guy about joining the group, and once she found out how bad his odar was, she nicley backed out with a Non-interest in the game.

Its not just "Gamers' - they're a subset of a larger group that until recently socierty looked down on. Now that segment of society they ask to fix their computers or help them get to the next level in World of Warcraft.
Ever see that show "BEAUTY & THE GEEK" tht was on a couple of years ago ? Many of those young ladies asfterwardsw decided to give geeky guys a chance after they figured out that they just needed a little bit of kind help. (Helps that many of the 'geeks' were also nice guys)

As for the stench thing?

At STAR TREK conventions - at least the Klingons smelled like bikers or rock & Roll roadies some of those Starfleet types in spandex and heavy wool uniforms. you didn't want to stand near. Plus Most of the "klingons" tended to take a shower before hosting room parties - dfon't know why the Feddies usually forgot to.

The Romulans I met at a couple of cons were usually pretty darn good about the hygiene. Especially the higher ranking Romulans.
