*sigh*

So after more than a handful of games over Vassal I think I'm tossing in the towel on making the Daemons into a tournamanet competetive force. While I think they can hold their own in regards to their fair share of wins and draws, I dont think they are tourney champs versus tourney players.

..and I didn't buy a single model Smile

I've pretty much covered the differnt builds with the tops between a twin Keeper/Flamers and the Epidemius/KuGath builds. I've gone with an aggressive and delayed Deep Strike style which varied on opponent. Sometimes you wanna drop and shoot while other times you wanna get to grips.

Toughest opponent being horde Orks and Mech Chaos (though Chad's shooty Eldar are salivating atm..)

..btw, Vassal is brilliant. I've played players from all over the world with different styles and tricks. Its funny how you can get by while using the Firing and Target logos coupled with simple words like "to hit" .. "to wound" .. "run" and the ever popular "you damn yank" and "suc me"

daemons have placed pretty well and most of last years major events, and won 'ard boys. I'd go as far as to say they have always placed in the top 5 of the major turnies. It just seems the Plague bearor list is not good, but the blood crusher, fate weaver list is ace. IMHO I use heralds of slaanesh on chariots, they are so cost effective that I would never take 4 against friends. Oh and always go second! ALWAYS. I hope this helps Smile

What? Nooo. They need to go first to have time to get onto the field and get set up, especially during Dawn of War when they have some protection against enemy firepower.

I hope your kidding Mendin... If you go second They can't get any shots at you at all even if your in Night fight. And night fight won't help much if your just 12" away cause you wanna charge them in the next turn...

It's a half turn of them doing nothing at all but maybe moving... Closer to ya!

Good discussion!

..well ..meh ..the latest results below. The armies I had fits with are ranked higher. Of course going by this alone is silly, but lets take a peek. Its where I started my readings before playtesting.

Heat 3

1. CSM
2. Eldar
3. Nids
4. Orks
5. Daemons
6. CSM
7. Orks
8. Eldar
9. CSM
10. CSM

Baltimore

1.Orks
2.Orks
3.Daemons
4.Tyranids
5.Daemons
6.Orks
7.CSM
8.CSM
9.Daemon Hunters
10.Tyranids

hmm.. about as useless as the Masque imho. Too easy a target after Deep Strike. Just dosen't hit with enough attacks/strength to cause problems to anything but Guardians. I'd rather have a fleeting Keeper with hit & run.

Shocked

Dawn of War

Daemon 1
You Deep Strike and Run out of your bubbles.

Opponent 1
Moves on from table edge and tries to shoot you during Night

Daemon 2
Reserves coming on while wave 1 is closing in for charges or shooting opponent to pieces now that Night rules are lifted.

Opponent 2
Now is facing an uphill battle..

I know they seem crappy at first, but take a looksy at what you get.

A Slaanesh Herald on Chariot is 65 pts w/o any other upgrades. From a statline perspective alone thatís a great buy. Since they are beasts/cavalry they get the 12Ē assault range + fleet. That makes them very easy to position safely away from enemy shooting and still make it into assaults. With 5 wounds, a 4+ armor save then 5+ INV save it takes a lot to bring them down. Since they canít be insta-killed every one of those wounds needs to be removed one at a time. Seven rending, furious attacks on the charge make them very capable of dealing out damage when they strike, attacking at Initiative 8 no less.

4 of these guys at 65pts costs you only 260. That's about the cost of 1 Lord of change or Bloodthirster before you give them anything (250). With 20 wounds and 28 attacks on the charge combined, they will hit harder and last longer.
Remember they can land out of rapid fire range and still make it into combat. 6' move, d6' fleet, 12' assault, you have an 19-24' threat range. But wait, there is more! Give these ladies Hit and run (3d6") and now their threat range becomes 23-42".....all for the cost on 1 greater daemon.

Sure your foe could focus on bringing them down. But then he'd have to Ignore All of your troops, your tough as nails Blood crushers, and those 3 daemon princes.

Sorry if this seems like a rant, and I'm not downing you at all, you'd just be surprised what little gems can be found in the Daemon codex. Let me know if your having trouble with Orks and I can give you some good tips on how to beat them silly!

I think people who play Tau still try to run Mech armies that worked so well in 4th.

I guess we will agree to disagree. Very Happy

Herald is still S3 so I'd rather just buy more Daemonettes and have two Keepers as the HQs. I managed a combined charge of two squads of Daemonettes on Chads Eldar Avatar during a game. I believe it was 72 attacks and when the dust settled he took 2 wounds. Rending has been toned waaay down in 5th. Same happened in another game versus a Daemon Prince... and another versus Ghazghul..

..anyways, point being is you cannot get by without high strength combat attacks in an army with minimal high strength shooting for your opponents big uglies and AV13+ vehicles. Sure, your chariot chics can wipe out a Marine squad or a unit of Banshees but they will struggle against a Land Raider, Wraithlord, Greater Daemon, etc

Just my point of view from about 8 games..

Too true. Slaanesh, lends itself well to troop munching. Avatars and the like need to be shot to peices. I'm sorry your foray into chaos ended badly Sad.
