A Call to Anime Fans Empty
PostSubject: A Call to Anime Fans   A Call to Anime Fans EmptySun Mar 01, 2009 3:14 am

I am looking for the names of anime (movies or series) which meet the following criteria:

1. Have a modern setting and
2. Do NOT include wildly fantastic elements (giant robots, nuclear explosions). Mildly fantastic elements (magic powers, haunted houses) are acceptable.

Any takers?

I suggest Blue Gender, although it does have battle armor, its done very tastefully and realistic, and only spans around 14-16 feet. The story is superb, the charactors are very belivable, the females are actually shaped properly, act nomaly and dress in realistic military uniforms. It's as close as real art as anime gets, and you can buy the series, or buy the condensed movie. I highly recommend it.

Gankutsuou is sweet. It's a anime take on Dumas.
Desert Punk is also pretty cool. Futuristic, but not too much.
Speed Grapher. About photojournalism. Sounds silly, but it's really good.

Love Hina - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Hina

I'm a little ashamed that it's a romantic comedy, but it was surprisingly fun to watch at the Sci-Fi convention I went to. It's set in the modern world, and follows the misadventures of a male character who basically lives with a bunch of women. There are no huge robots, no magic, no martial arts, no amazing feats of daring do, nothing.

Lupin III - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lupin_III
Tons of fun following the comic antics of Lupin and his merry band of international thieves. Set in the modern world, about the only thing that's a bit fantastic is the swordsmanship of one of his accomplices, who's a zen master with a sword.

Need to jump on this with Mike, but with other criteria... I am looking for some movies with the CG quality of the Appleseed series. Genre and time lines don't matter just want a good quality non cartoon look.

Any help finding some would be great.

Thanks
