PostSubject: new to 40k and would like some help   Sun Oct 21, 2007 4:42 pm

hey guys my name is Danny a few of you might know me from playing at the world of hobbies. i was one of the confronatation gamers. well anyway i recieved a good amount of retro nurgle and chaos minis through a trade recently and was wondering what else i should get. id like to keep buying to a minimum cause im only 16 and have a low budget i just want to be able to start playing a few small games. i got my first real demo yesterday. well this is what i currently have:

1x chaos standard bearer
3x chaos marines w/ HUGE machine gun like things (I have no idea what these are)
10x chaos terminators
1x chaos w/ HUGE bolter like thing (I have no idea what these are)
13x complete plague marines
1x plaque marine captain
10x incomplete misc. chaos marines (could convert to nurgle) missing arms.
1x typhus lord of nurgle
1x chaos spawn (metal)
2x complete bikers
1x biker (missing arms)
1x greater daemon of nurgle
1x land raider (regular space marine one, missing top bits like the guns and stuff)
1x defiler

is what i have a good starting point also any ideas what the minis with the huge guns i described are. also i need some basic bits to complet a few minis where can i get some. what else do i truly have to get and around how many points does it look like i have. sorry about all the questions im just really new to it and dont really know anything yet. any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot.

Danny, glad you made it on. Show me the guns next time your around, but their probably either autocannons or heavy bolters. Greater and Lesser Daemons are now generic, so it doesn't matter which models you use. Standard Bearer doesn't much matter to Chaos, but you could probably use it as an icon to teleport in your terminators. Depending on how you equip everything, you could probably run 1,500 to 2,500 points if you wanted to use everything. I don't own the codex, but I'm certain all the other chaos players will tell you what's what. Oh, and welcome to the forum.

You've got enough to make a basic army, but check the links page for where to get stuff. Just wait, when the chaosy people get around to this link you'll get all the advice you need.

Comment under each listing Very Happy

1x chaos standard bearer
Simply a squad Icon now

3x chaos marines w/ HUGE machine gun like things (I have no idea what these are)
Prolly Heavy Bolters (maybe Autocannons? - Matt). Could be used in a Havoc Squad

10x chaos terminators
I'd split them into 2 units of 5 - what's their weapon layout?

1x chaos w/ HUGE bolter like thing (I have no idea what these are)
In addition to the 3 above? Same looking weapon(maybe this one is the autocannon - Matt)?

13x complete plague marines
10x incomplete misc. chaos marines (could convert to nurgle) missing arms.
The meat of your Nurgle army

1x plaque marine captain
Squad Champion Daemonhost

1x typhus lord of nurgle
Go ahead and use the Special Character

1x chaos spawn (metal)
a very meh Fast Attack slot selection, only if you have the points

2x complete bikers
1x biker (missing arms)
T4(6) Bikers are quite good. Always include these

1x greater daemon of nurgle
2nd HQ for ya, generic Greater Daemon stats an upgrade from 3rd

1x land raider (regular space marine one, missing top bits like the guns and stuff)
1x defiler
Two solid Heavy selections. You could even hide the Land Raider as an Elite Slot transport selection.

Perhaps a Plaguespear would work?

Consists of a big nasty squad (say Typhus with 4 terminators) in a Landraider.

Then 2+ squads of rhinos full to the brim with Plague Marine (PM's) goodness.

Only problem with this is that, in the new codex, PM's are Initiative 5. Still I think it is a very viable tactic. Plus your demonhost should get stuck in, delivering a nice big demon to their lines.

Deepstirke the second terminator squad.

Use the vanilla marines to pack some long range AT firepower.

Throw in anything that will compliment and fit in the points limit.

And VIOLA! A nasty Nurgle list. Should be very entertaining to play and play against.

When Matt says Initiative 5, he means Initiative 3.

(Don't make Nurgle better than they already are Matt! Forshame!)

Seriously old school! I can't help with the raider or the marines, but the first gun the guy is holding is either a lascannon or an autocannon (you could probably pass it off as either one), and the other gun is a heavy bolter like you thought.

Don't change the old school marines! They are awesome just the way they are. People will be jealous of the vintage buggers.

For the Land raider you need a twin linked heavy bolter sponson (front hole).

Then a storm bolter if you wanted it (not really worth it, so just a hatch or panel to plug up the second hole)

Then the third hole back just needs the hatch doors, or the half a marine that is sitting outside. I'd just go with the hatches though.

So not too much, I think all of these pieces come on one sprue. I can help you with the hatch and cover, all you will need is the Twin linked Heavy Bolter sponson.

That is indeed the Lascannon.

Autocannon
