Agreed with Danny. I really like using the Gryphonne Sepia wash, as it gives the gold a nice aged look.

Gryphonne Sepia does give gold an aged look, if you want more of a dirty look, use Devlan Mud wash, that will give you a dirty, brownish look (I've done that when I want it to look newer, but well used). Definitely use Badab Black on the Boltgun/chainmail metals, and highlight your cloak a bit as well, that will really make those pop! A wash on the bone wouldn't probably hurt either. A really watered down Chestnut ink mixed with a bunch of water and Flesh wash does a really good job for that. Oh, and if you go through and highlight with some burnished gold, then Mythril Silver on the gold, it will give it an even more weathered look!

Sorry, just thought I'd throw some ideas that I use your way in case any of it sounds good, these are not slams, just some ideas on where to go from here! Definitely a good start!

Yeah, all the mail and brassy bits you'll be doing will be quite different than your 'nids. Listen to joe--he does a really good job of making armour look good.

Hey yea I am starting to like painting, just when I look at the table and see all the ones I have to do I get overwhelmed ha ha! but once I figure out what scheme I am doing then it become production assembly line time.

as for the washes I'm not real familiar with them but I assume they work kind of like a wood stain or something along that line correct?

Yeah, my fav part is the painting, bar none.

The washes are VERY easy to use, if you use the premixed ones from Citadel. They are in the area with the paints for GW, and they have the Foundation tubs, but with a black cap.

All you need to do when applying them is brush it onto the area that you want to have shading on it. Apply liberally, just be careful though, because if you want to, say, use Gryphonne Sepia in one area right next to where you want to use Badab Black, they don't mix very well. What I mean is, if you use one, then let it dry, then use the other, you will be able to tell that you went over one with another (they are a little unforgiving in that respect). If you do go over into another area, you can always use a little bit of water to clean it off while it's still wet. Definitely let each section of wash dry before you move on to another wash, or continue painting, because it bleeds very quickly if it comes into contact with another paint/wash.

If you want to use the Chestnut ink/flesh wash combo, you will need to get the ink/wash from the normal section of GW paints. After a while, you will find the mixture that you like, but what I use is 3 drops chestnut, 1 drop flesh wash, and about 6-10 drops of water to go over bone. You can use a very small amount of dish soap for surface tension breakup if you don't feel that the coverage is even enough.

Oh, extremely good example:
vampire counts Newcommanders

If you look at the officer with the power sword, look at his pants. This was achieved by painting red, Badab black ink, then highlighting with red again. Then, if you notice the sepia tone to the silvery color, that's achieved using the Sepia. But, it's more pronounced when you use it over gold...

I guess I'm the only one who thinks the shining gold is good? I just have a hard time thinking the aristicratic vampires have dirty old bums dragging mud all over their fancy castles and messing up thier Rave parties. Those IG look good also
