Well with my weeknights free once again as the pee wee Football season comes to a close, I can once again churn out some armies.
While I wait for Johns 1st Stealer batch I went ahead and base coated my Chaos army. Used a simple 1:1:1 of GW TinBitz:Boltgun:BlackInk as the batch. In doing my previous army I went straight for the Studio Shiny look and had to spend hours toning down the minis. Inconsistencies were wide spread across the army as I lost dibs on what, where and how much the models were washed. This way I start deep and build to the Silver. Mixing a base batch has its advantages IMO as for the highlights you can simply pull out the colours used in your batch along with the coresponding final highlight. In my case this will be the 1:1:1 followed by straight Boltgun and straight Silver. Taa Daa
Using Ink in the batch allowed for a smooth application while hitting all the usual suspect recesses. Of course the downside is that a 2nd thin coat is required to pull off the needed look. If anyone knows of a brand that does the job of a one coat coverage, I'm listening. GW Foundation set comes close.
