I hosted a CAG one last year around this time.

Is it time to do one again?

OK... scratch But what if you can't make it that weekend?
What if people don't want to paint the Spulk miniatures?

I'm just suggesting maybe we can do something a little broader too.. if there is interest.

So are we talking a painting contest where you bring an already painted mini for judging?

Or a painting contest where everyone brings their paints and everyone paints the same mini on site?

A little off topic, but I just want to vent a second and say that allowing professional golden demon award winning painters to enter amateur speed painting contests at cons is BS!!! They need to have a masters division if they want to do that crap. I did a piece at gen con last year and took 3rd behind guess who? 2 friends who were both french golden demon winners...

Did the speed painting contest say "amateurs only"? I bet it didn't. Just like Golden Daemons accept all entrants as well. Was this the final round too? Most of the vendors who host "speed" painting contests have a "finals" on Sunday for those who make it through the preliminary rounds.

However, if you lost to Jeremie Bonamount and Allan Carrasco I'd take heart that these 2 gentlemen are both tops in their field (I know they were at Gen Con last year).

I think he means. We set up criteria. Folks take 30 to 45 days to paint a piece, then it is turned in for judging and awards are issued.

Yes... I've done this here last year and hosted several "on line" contests. I generally give weighting based on painting experience, the give points for different factors on the figure to provide a total score.

I remember way back in the mid 90's I came in 4th place (no prize for 4th though) in the "Games Workshop" category at Gen Con. It was a new category they had just added that year because of the rise in Games Workshop bright colored paintjobs, and complaints that there were prejudices against non realism in mini painting in the regular categories. My entry was a Chaos Marine that I had painted in bright red orange and yellow flame colors.

Of course that was back when Gen Con was held at MECCA in Milwaukee WI every year. Before it went mobile and eventually settled in Indy.

It's funny that the mini that won me the the highest prize in my local convention in 1995, now sits at "less than gaming quality" at CMON...

All those years I sat idle, and everyone passed me by Smile

I do mean the way that John had his set up. Did yours have catagories? Such as single model, vehicle, etc? Thats what im kinda thinking because Ohio has no games workshops.

Since it was local I usually only put out 1 category a contest with a twist on somthing. Last year I did a single 40K figure on max 40mm base to commemorate the launch of 5e. With lots of categories in a local contest if you have maybe max 10 participants So maybe only 2 or so in each category.
