SheVaCon retained its name from its origins as the Shenandoah Valley Convention in Staunton, VA. They've since moved to Roanoke because of larger space requirements, and we're hoping to help them further outgrow their current location. Coming up in 2010 is SheVaCon XVIII, so they're a well-established convention.
SheVaCon is a Science Fiction & Fantasy, Horror, Costuming and Gaming Convention. SheVaCon is a Not For Profit organization so all the work you see by the time you arrive at the convention has been done by the volunteering efforts of the Board of Directors and everyone they have been able to talk into donating their time, money or supplies.
WHY IS SHEVACON HERE? For most, SheVaCon is here as a small inexpensive vacation from the real world for 3 fun filled days. Getting together with friends and family to enjoy the genre they love. For others SheVaCon is a educational outlet for the aspiring Artists or Writers. Here we give the Artists and Writers a chance to talk to each other offering workshops and panels on "How to Get Published" or "Tools the Professionals Use". Amateurs can take advantage of a chance to talk to the Pro's, get their feed back and learn some new tricks of the trade. The first year we operated a fan table and put on an armor panel. Two years ago we did a litany of events and activities including the first ever Children Droid Scavenger Hunt and our very own 501st party featuring Scare-e-oke MCed by the Master of Ceremonies Spat. The Ohio Garrison graced us with their presence in not only helping us with every event we put on but in doing their very own The Masters of the Force lightsaber duelists. Their involvement was sincerely appreciated. Since the first year we have hosted the Photos for Charity donations event and helped the con with the costume contest guarding the doors and backrooms costume preparation. Last year we had the honor of hosting two 501st parties and having our brothers join us from Old Line Garrison, Ohio Garrison, Carolina Garrison and the Northeast Remnant Garrison. We also inducted Jeremy Bulloch and Joe Corroney as Garrison Tyranus Honorary members. This year we are focusing our time and energy on 7 specific functions including our grandiose fan table set up, armor panel, Charity photos and two 501st parties. 501st EVENTS To begin, we will be operating a fan table throughout the main operating hours of the con. Be sure to stop by to check the fan table for the latest photos of Garrison Tyranus' past events and information on other 501st events. This is your stopping point for all questions 501st and just to hang out with really cool 501st members! This year we will be taking Photos for Charity benefit to help raise money for the Shevacon Scholarship Fund and Make-A-Wish. We already have 6 fan groups on board to help us make it a success. So be sure to check it out, as you may just see another cool costumed genre character that you will want to have a picture with. The money will be presented during the Shevacon Scholarship Chairty Fundraiser. So be sure to stop by the table in your 501st costume and take pictures with donating fans!
We will be hosting the third year Children Droid Scavenger Hunt or Children "Build a Droid" Hunt game. Shevacon and Garrison Tyranus have been hard at work on the details of the game, altering it again this year to for a smoother operating game to keep up with the changing times of the Star Wars universe. So bring your children and sign up to participate in the game. If you would like to help, please inquire. This event will take place on Saturday.
Saturday features the Meet the 501st Panel!
After the 501st introduction will be the 501st Armor Panel - everything you wanted to know in detail on all armor types 501st!
Friday night after the VaShe Cafe (see below) will be the official 501st party! there will be Karaoke again so bring your singing voice. Need courage to sing? Saddle up to the cash bar and purchase your favorite drink. Garrison Tyranus has invited the Shevacon Staff and all fan groups to join us. You may also invite a non-501st guest. 21 or older please as we will have a Cash bar set up exclusively for us. This means alcohol! Can't find the drink you like at the cash bar. Order it from the operating staff. 18-20 years old can join us as we will all be banded and IDed to enter. So be sure to bring your official ID. You will require your Shevacon Fan Groups badge to enter. The party starts at 11PM and runs until 1:45AM.
Did I mention Costume Contest? Well, I might have mentioned it. Well…maybe twice. That’s because it is an interesting time to show off your costume or acting skills. Have a favorite costume you want to enter? Do a little skit? Be sure to enter the Shevacon Costume Contest!

Fan Group Costume Contest Category for the above mentioned Costume Contest.
With the addition of so many Fan Groups from different genres of the science fiction and fantasy realms to the convention, Shevacon has added a new section to the Costume Contest to highlight their specific skills in the trade. The Fan Group costumes will be judged in most of the same categories as the non-Fan Groups, although held to a higher standard.
• Best In Show - The 'Standout' of all of the Fan Group Costumes
• Best Craftsmanship - This will be a tough one to judge - but we'll be looking at the costume's every detail.
• Best Presentation - Judged on stage of course.
• Best Recreation - Oh we'll be able to tell... it might be difficult given the level of skill and detail - but I'm sure we'll manage.
• Best Skit - Get up there and do your best to entertain us!
• Best Group - 2 or more contestants... let us see what ya got!
• Viewers Choice - voted on by applause from the audience- so strut your stuff!
And yes, there will be awards!
Reintroducing the Best Costume Event of all, The Hall Costume Competition! That's right, just wearing a costume at the con can get you a nifty "Hey that's an awesome costume you got there," nod from our roving secret judges.
This competition runs from the start of SheVaCon on Friday, and goes until 6pm on Saturday of the convention. So throw on your favorite costume, walk around, have a good time, and you just might get a pleasant surprise.
Hall costumes are any costume worn during the con that are not specifically entered into the Masquerade contest. These costumes are judged by roving secret judges and are awarded on the spot by those judges. These awards are a nod to all of the hard work that goes into a costume that is just being worn for fun by a fan. Recipients of the Hall Costume awards are asked to display their costumes during the Masquerade for all to see.
There will be a 'Best Hall Costume' Award that is awarded at the Masquerade. Hall costumes are not subject to the close scrutiny of those entered in the Masquerade, as this is a 'just for fun' segment. Best Hall Costume award is by popular vote. Hall costumes are not required to produce any documentation or reference material at all for their pieces.
Saturday night SheVaCon is proud to present The SheVa Con Throw Down Dance Party . Your badge gets you in. The beats get you down. Because no matter whether you spent your day at panels, looking at animated girls in short skirts, guys in traditional kilts, gaming, LARPing, drinking, shopping, costuming, drumming or simply experiencing life outside of a darkened basement, it's time to celebrate. To clear up any confusion from previous years: The hotel staff requires all guests to remain fully clothed at all times.
All weapons and/or large props are not allowed in the dance…please make arrangements to leave in your room / car ..etc…. Costumes and stationary glow sticks encouraged. Event is 17+. Proof of age must be given if requested at the door.
No alcoholic beverages are allowed inside the event. At any time Shevacon staff or hotel staff have the option of ejecting any one who is in violation of the rules of the dance. We are Saturday night life.
Also a personal favorite game of Spat’s is Kill Dr Lucky. A very interesting and fun live action role playing game that plays like a live action Clue except the players work towards killing Dr Lucky instead of solving who killed him.

The MEDIA GUEST OF HONOR is Peter Mayhew An English hospital worker who inadvertently found himself catapulted into films, was the towering gentle giant responsible for bringing Chewbacca to life. Mayhew, who stands 7'3", was born in Barnes, England. The son of a policeman, he spent a short time in the field of engineering before discovering that he felt more fulfilled by hospital service. In the mid-1970s, he was working as a hospital orderly at London's King's College Hospital when he was featured in a newspaper article about men with large feet.

501st COSTUMES
If you have multiple 501st costumes, please bring what you can. Clones and snowtroopers are a big theme this year. For one shot characters such as Darth Vader and Boba Fett, we will be needing more than one so as not to overwhelm any one member in costume. If you are a Vader, you know how hot it gets. We would like to rotate out different 501st members as Darth Vader or Boba Fett throughout the con, especially for fan Photo for Charity pictures. And there may be times we need Vader in 2 places at once.
