Terminator bases Empty
PostSubject: Terminator bases   Terminator bases EmptyTue Oct 23, 2007 4:12 pm

Hey I forgot about this one:

On Sunday, showing up with my stuff from circa 1998-1999, I noticed that Marc's new termies have larger bases.

The fellas there said I'd have to rebase all my old termies on larger bases in order to make them tournament legal? Are the little bases ok for friendly games?

The only rule I could find is in the little book on page 6 it says that the base supplied with the model is the smallest allowed. I've actually got mine on the bases that were supplied (with THOSE models).

Not really a huge problem as I just paint mine goblin green, spread elmer's on top and dip em in green flock (2nd ed old school style.) But a bit of a pain in the butt and kinda dissapointing for someone who's been collecting for a while.

Is there a link to a page by GW with official rulings on stuff like this? I found the FAQs and errata page but nothing about these.

Also, I'm trying to wrap my head around the advantage or drawback of a larger and smaller base - for shooting it's a bigger target I guess? For assault does it matter?

Heck I just looked on GWs store site and they've got loose Deathwing termies listed with little bases. What gives?

They are insanely lazy when it comes to updating their site.

Reason #9045 to never buy a thing from them!

I wouldn't have a problem in friendlies. In tournaments I could see a few problems coming up though. Never seen anyone try to run old terminators, so who knows?

Tournies'll probably call you on that. But the advantages and disadvantages are not many. The best thing I can think of for having a bigger base is more close combat potential, as you'll be able to hit more guys, but they'll be able to hit you back. Shooting is actually good because of the templates. Less of your models will get hit with bigger bases, and with ordinance that can be the difference from having a squad above half, or below half.

The bigger bases are nice to model dead Dark Angels on Laughing

yeah, anyone that takes large bases for an advantage is a chode.

Best to just use the base that they come with, or in the case of old models... either the base they most recently come with OR buy new models (the choice most tournament players make Smile)
