PostSubject: Using IA/Apoc in a Tournament   Thu Apr 01, 2010 12:22 am

OK what brought this up is during Adepticon team play people were using variants found in the Imperial Armor and Apocalypse books.

The second game we played a Marine player had a Dread with the 2x Twin-Linked Autocannons. Now to me that is no more over or under powered than a dread with a Missile Launcher attachment.

They way the Adepticon staff run it for the standard Team Tournament is:
(They don't allow any in the Sunday Championship, not sure why though)
1 - No Super Heavies
2 - No Gargantuan Creatures
3 - No Flyers
4 - No Formations
5 - No Strategems of couse cause its not a Apoc game.

We discussed it on the way back from Chicago and I think we were all in agreement that it would be cool to see some of stuff in the IA/Apoc books come to the table in a standard tournament environment. I looked through most the Imperial Armor books (1-7, cant find 8) and all the Apocalypse books and didn't see anything that would throw the balance to one race or another.

So I am just throwing this out there as a discussion to the local gaming group would you like to see, or what is your take on using these books in a Tournament setting.

as I said in the car, I love the idea. I think it would allow us to bust out the expensive forge World goodness.

I wouldn't see a problem with Imperial Armor stuff, as long as it wasn't in your list that adepticon didn't allow. It's still made by GW, and I think the only problem people would have with it is that it's not in the codex... For the most part, though, the forgeworld stuff usually can be used as an entry in the codex, too.

Sorry guys but I don't like the idea. I didn't even like it for the team event!
There is enough to keep track of in standard 40k with new codex', faq's and the like. I prefer to spend my money on stuff that is relavant to my hobby interest, Apoc. doesn't fall into that catagory for me. If I wanted to use IA stuff then I would play Apoc. or compete in Gladiator style events. Sleep No I say keep them seperate, just my 2 cents. Smile

That would rock. For example, ShasO Rymar. Loved his fluff. Love the model. Would have loved running him in a Tau List. This gives the player a better oppurtunity for better characters too along side other special weapons.

As for rules, they give you character rules under the model if you want to purchase it too in some of the items.

The only problem i see, is that the forge world releases are even more skewed than the traditional codex releases. Tau/Marines/IG have a BOAT load of things to use (and not even a crazy amount for the tau.)

Orks are getting there too.

It leaves the other armies with a lot less options.

Keep the IA and Apoc stuff where it belongs... in the Gladiator not in the other tourneys. Keep the 40k championships and team tourneys "clean". IMO

If your CAG tourney "expands" to Saturday gaming of team events or battles of fluff then whatever you want to do in that framework is fine. Let it be clear (no Chad moments of wtf) and be prepared to have reference material on hand, FW FAQs and whatever else.. then be prepared for VDR players

Tourney gaming should not allow such expansion beyond the current codex..es
