Outfiting a Dreadnought Empty
PostSubject: Outfiting a Dreadnought   Outfiting a Dreadnought EmptyTue Apr 20, 2010 2:54 am

Ok, here is the Scenario:

Space Marine Dreadnought

Outfit A - Multimelta/Heavy Flamer

Outfit B - Assault Cannon/Heavy Flamer

Will be landing via Drop Pod, looking to at a minimum glance a AV12 or less on deployment.

My argument falls with the MultiMelta, because of the strength as opposed to the multi-shot/rending from the Assault Cannon.

I am pretty decent at math, but I will probably screw this up, so let me know any errors I make.

Tournament Day:

3 Games, 3 Drops.

Assault Cannon - Heavy 4

Giving a total of 12 shots over the course of the whole tournament.
With a BS4 that is 66.67% of hitting.
So that is 7.92 shots hitting over the course of the day.
Needing a 6 (16.66% on a D6) to glance/penetrate.
That leaves 1.31 shots that glance/penetrate.

Multimelta - Heavy 1
4 Shots over the day.
Same as above for hit percentage.
Total of 2.66 shots hitting the target.
With a STR8 will need a 4 on 2D6 to glance. (with the drop pod I will assume I wont scatter out of the 12" Melta range.)
Here is where my math gets shady because of the 2D6, thinking its a 75% to get a Glancing hit and a 66.67% to get a penetration.
That is 1.99 shots that glance and 1.77 shots that penetrate

+ the Multimelta gets the extra 1 for damage.

Just really looking for someone to correct my math if there is any need to. I just want to pop a Rhino, Chimera, etc or stun a bigger tank Leman Russ, Preadator, etc for one round of shooting till I can possibly get to it in h-t-h.

Thanks in advance for any responses...

Your odds of getting a glance are 91%
Your odds of getting a Pen are 83%

We can sticky, but only in the Section you moderate, I can do Vassal stuff and you have Fantasy privileges I am thinking.

What's the difference between the Twin Linked LasCannon on that link and the Tank Hunter? Was Tank Hunter a really old option in the Space Marine codex?

Yeah was a 4th Edition trait you could give Marines and other various units had it, Eldar Fire Dragons, Ork Tankbusters, etc.

Tank Hunters:
(4th Ed. Rulebook)
Tank Hunters are especially skilled at finding and exploiting weaknesses in the armor of enemy vehicles. They add +1 to their Armor Penetration rolls whenever they hit a vehicle (with any weapon), and automatically pass Morale checks caused by Tank Shock.
