This used to be touchdown Jesus. No longer. I'm told it was a lightning strike during this evening's downpour.
Also, I lost a game of 40k tonight. Coincidence? I think not.

Think the clip is looped, but you get the point....
So much for someone building a 60ft paper football statue on the opposite side of the highway

An exchange between myself and a friend of mine this morning:
Friend: "Well, I heard from the pastor that He will rise again!"
Me: "Yeah, but due to a scheduling snafu, if it happens on Sunday, it won't be three days later!"

The news report said it was a steel frame covered in styrofoam and wood. So it was basically a lightning rod covered in flammable materials. GJ church people. GJ

Realistically what do you expect to make a 60 foot statue out of. Those are what you would use unless you wanted the thing to cost a million dollars to build. Rumor has it it was built on Florida and shipped here, so the lighter the better for shipping I would think also.
Hëll with $700,000 in damages to it plus the part of the church it burned it had to be a pretty good chunk of change just made from those materials.
It stood for 6 years before this happened not to bad really considering the storms we get from year to year. I am sure the insurance policy will get a good increase for the next one.

Though, it baffles me why you would build something like that and not spend the extra, what, grand? to put lightning rods in.

They said it costs $250,000 to build and they will build again. Maybe the toxins released into the air from the fiberglass and foam will encourage them to use a better material next time. Or maybe they'll realize they shouldn't rebuild. Can we say graven image or idolatry?

Maybe it was destroyed by a higher power so they would build a BIGGER one. Ever think of that?
ps - It did have a lightening rod system - but it did not work!
Can you imagine driving by while it was on fire? Ahhhh!

Maybe we can post the rebuild progress in the wip section.
