Where did Warhammer Fantasy go?

Hello everyone it has been a long time since i have posted here but i have a few questions. One, i wanted to know why a lot of people aren't going to the free warhammer day every Monday at Yottaquest? Two is i want people to show up and a few have but no fantasy players why is that? Three, WARHAMMER FANTASY WHERE ARE YOU!

What is free Warhammer Monday? And most like myself were waiting on the new rules to come out as we were not very happy with the last edition. I believe you will see more Fantasy in the area after the release of the new book or box set.

You will also notice that there are several events coming up around cincinnati that are scheduled for the release of the new rules. We are here just waiting for new rules is all.

What the event is although it is not on the calendar for Yotaquest it is just a day where they have designated tables for people who want to play Warhammer 40k (or Fantasy) but for the few people that show up none except me my dad and my bro show up for Fantasy and this was the year that if we found no players we were going to sell all or a portion to have larger or even start warhammer 40k because my dad doesn't play 40k. I understand that the new rulebook is out right now and that is a major decision to if we want to buy the new rule book or not. We have not played in a very long time and forgot most if not all the rules and need some people to play wit if not for the hope that we will ever play this game again.

EDIT: Yottaquest is putting it on the calendar now from what i hear.

You're best bet is to look around the forums and find some events your interested in. Don't worry, Fantasy is not gone at all. In fact, 8th is going to bring more people to the game than ever before.

Excellent, now is a good time to get into fantasy! I love the new Rules but unfortunately the book is not officially released until the 9th I think?

Still some stores have preview copies for people to browse through.
The rules are very streamlined and play seems to be quicker, and more similar to 40K.

I have 4 armies in Fantasy but will be playing Mostly Orcs & Goblins and Empire 2nd.

I will be out and around soon playing at all the stores in time, there are just so many to choose from now. Hope to see you playing soon, however I don't play during the week generally because of the time it takes to play. I usually play on the weekends.

Well that is all cool but just so you know because you all are talking like it is next week the official rulebook is out, i just thought i would tell you it has been out almost this entire week in fact that is why i am post because i wanted to know if i should just buy mine now.

Also i will not be at Yottaquest this week but next week maybe.

No, it's not. It goes on sale July 10. Like both kain and makari said, there are preview copies, but you can't (legally) buy a copy of 8E yet.

OK..

1. If yottaquest came to this board and advertised their event calendar I'm sure more folks would show up.

2. I frequent Yotta (Friday night some times) and have no clue about Monday Warhammer days. I was there purchasing warhammer minis about 2 weeks ago and no one mentioned the event.

3. Regardless, we'd love to learn about the events at Yotta. Even the ones not on their calendar. Feel free to post them. Feel free to post in the Make a date area that you and your dad will be up there with a heap of WHFB to play.

I'm sure you'll get a bite or two.

The other reason people are waiting on the book to be out for some time is to READ the rules, I have read the Rules section of the book several times but could still use some studying at home leisurly to soak in all the rules. I know a good portion of people are going to wait for the box set to get the mini rule book and forgo the big one. So it may be in Sept that people really know the rules. but There are many still that will have access to the big book for rules and be ready to play any day now...

and as John mentioned post when you wanna play and where.

Ok, it will be hard getting back in though.

Maybe you just need some games in that may help you understand some of the finer points of fantasy and play some games where you are having fun and if you win great if not then you will get them next time cause it is fun!

well what im saying is that i have played this game almost all my life with my dad and my bro and well me and my dad have never won a game except against each other we both suck at the game and my bro is awesome at it, so the thing is we picked up this game to have fun years ago people stopped playing when we did not.

Dont give up because you keep losing. Play more people other than your bro and Dad. as my brother can attest once a repeat player finds a pattern how to beat someone it is very hard to over come that. I used to beat the pants off of him constantly. And it wasn't that he was a bad player just to me predictable in tactics and I was able to exploit that. Once we both started playing other people and gaining new strategies he became a competent player and actually, dare I say, started to enjoy the game more.

Another reason you may not be winning or having fun is the construction of the armies you are playing. Making a viable list is not easy. Especially if you want to balance it with competetiveness and fun. What sounds good on paper may not translate well on the field. There are enough people out there with strong opinions on what constitutes a good list, and honestly they may all be right, but it really depends on what works for you. The best way to do that is observe other peoples lists and how they use different units and how they perform. Another good way is to just talk to other people about how they would use your army or how they would defend against it. I learned alot about the Orks/orcs by switching armies with people and see my army played against me with theirs! not only was it fun but you can see some new ideas for strategy that will help you for the next game and beyond.

I'm sure a regular CAG member who plays Fantasy will be at Yotta or where ever you can make it to in the near future and you two can sit down and discuss these points and help you rekindle the excitement you had for the game.

Until then dont give up and try to look over your lists and think about how the whole things works together and decide if different units could be used o achieve those wins you want so badly.

By the way what armies do you play/like?

As most people here can attest to, I am almost always up for fantasy. I may not be the best player, but I am willing to share what I do know and have learned over the last several years playing it.

I own an all mounted smallish brotonian (spelling?) army
As well as a relatively large skaven, and i have not even looked at the new book
And i have a small hot off the glue Tomb king army that i need to build up because i'm going with the theme of a mounted army as well, sounds dumb but i like it , so i need a lord choice just to take chariots as core so has to be over 2000 which i have almost just enough.

Perhaps a posting on the "make a date" section of the forum would bear a game or 2.

Is Yottaquest the only play you will play? I know for a fact people will be playing Warhammer fantasy 8th Edition tomorrow at Art of War

I know because I will be there. And I will offer you some help in building armies and learning the game. I also run Skaven so I could share some pointers.

Good luck man. Right now is the worse time to be getting out of the game. I'd at least play a couple of games of the new edition before dumping your stuff.

We will be there, where is it can i get some directions? Also how many people will be showing? How many points on average or is there a set points limit?

well, we'll be playing 8th edition comp rules, and normally weigh in at 2K.

That is for the special 8th Edition Kick off event, the grand Order vs. Disorder event Friday night.

This weekend coming up, July 9th and 10th is a little different than our normal weekends.

Normally Art of War opens at noon on Saturdays, and Warhammer starts around 2 pm.
