Warhammer Weekend Announced at the Art of War!

Alright all you crazy Warhammer Players, it's time! GW has told us that The Art of War is allowed to start selling Warhammer Fantasy 8th Edition Starting July 10th at 12:01 AM. You know what that means? Midnight Bash!, Black Orc Construction Contest! and Skaven Brawls!

That's right. Starting at 10:00pm Friday, July 9th, Art of War is going to do an epic Order against Disorder Warhammer event. The first two turns are going to be played using 7th Edition rules, and when 12:01 AM Saturday Morning, July 10th hits, we are going to switch over to 8th Edition! That's right. We're going to say good bye to 7th with half a game, and hello to 8th with half a game. Crazy? You betcha! So how does this event work? Well, bring a 500 point army constructed using seventh edition rules, and throughout the event, we will calculate points based on army comp, numbers killed, and painting. Whoever has the most total points at the end of the event will win some free Warhammer Fantasy product.

The second event is going to be an Black Orc Construction Contest (sounds better than Iron man!) Basically, you're going to start building models. After two hours, we're going to call time, and whoever builds the best looking and largest amount will win some free Warhammer Fantasy product. This is going to start at 3:00 pm on Saturday July 10th, and run until 5:00 pm.

And finally, we have the Skaven Brawls! These are going to be similar to demo games, where you have a couple of 500 point armies to select from, or bring your own 500 point army. Then you will face off against the vile Snikikk Fang-Rot and his horrible broken and massively overpowered(TM) Furn-Burn Skaven Clan. This will be demo situation, where we will be teaching you the game. But unlike a normal demo, I will not be playing nice. Whoever does the most damage against my Skaven at the end of the Day will recieve...you guess it...Warhammer Fantasy Product! The demos start at Noon on Saturday, July 10th. Space for the demos will be limited, and there will be a sign-up sheet with more information next week.

And this is just the opening weekend. We will also be starting an Escalation League July as well, so get over to Art of War Gaming and Miniatures for all your Warhammer Fantasy needs!

When you say the Skaven Brawls will be similar to demo games are you implying that someone with little to no knowledge of WFB could play/be shown the ropes (albeit without mercy) or are you expecting someone to have a fair grasp of the (7th edition) rules?

I'm saying that I am going to teach you the game, however, I'm not going to hold back during my turns, meaning I will cast the correct spells and charge if I can and such, because it's an event. cat

You do not need to know how to play warhammer fantasy at all. You can still participate and learn the game. The scoring is going to be a little different that just kill points. rendeer

But it's a secret. If I gave it away it would be fail.

Ok, more information for y'all!

The 500 point "order vs Disorder" lists require one hero and one core choice. The rest of your points can be spent on whatever, just as long as they fit the 8th Edition army list requirements

For clarity's sake, if you take a mage that has access to the "book lores", meaning any of the lores printed in the base rulebook, the first two turns, you will be using the 7th edition lores. On the third turn, when we switch from 7th to 8th, you will re-roll your spells for your mages, following the restrictions set forth in the 8th Ed book. The only thing that will not change is the lores your wizards pull their spells from. So keep that in mind Sleep

Post any questions...or email me...or im me. It's whatever! I'm looking forward to next weekend. Going to be crazy awesome with 8th edition lovin! jocolor

In the skaven brawl, how many points of skaven will we be facing and what are the army comp restrictions?

It's 500 points, standard 8th edition comp. If you don't know 8th comp, or unsure how it works, I will help you construct a 500 points list to match the 8th edition comp rules.

I take that back, they can build a legal list, but it is not one I would want to put up against skaven in any form Smile.

Hey gang, in order to better serve everyone, I've decided that the Skaven Brawl demos on Saturday are going to be raffle based. Basically, get a demo, get entered in the raffle. At the end of Business on Saturday, a name will be drawn and that person will be emailed/called. You will have a week to claim your prize.

This way the experienced player and the noob alike will have a chance to claim a prize. cat

Alright, the greatest gaming event ever has come and gone, and I have to say, it was crazy.

First was the Destruction vs. Order game. There were a total of 8 players (including myself.) There were two lizardmen, two daemons, a wood elf, a high elf, a dwarf, and me playing Skaven. The teams ended up being a confused lizardmen army, skaven, and the two daemons against the other lizardmen, the elves, and the dwarfs. In the end, Team Order crushed Team Destruction. I lost my notes but I believe at the end of the game, Destruction only managed 400 victory points, while Order crushed something like 1600-1700 victory points.

When we switched to 8th edition from 7th, a couple of the new rules really made themselves obvious. First, the randomness of the magic phase really kicked daemons in the rear. It was a mix of Destruction's poor rolling and the difficulties of the spells really impacted our magic phase. Second, the changes to charging and close combat pumped the dwarfs. They were able to charge a unit of Sarus and actually attack first and kill some Sarus.

In the end, the game lasted about five hours. Garret and the Lizards ended up winning the event, with a total of 625 victory points, two best player votes, and some silliness in the center of the board with a magic well. David with Wood Elves came in second place with 550 victory points. Followed by Joe and his Dwarves with 425 points. It was a really enjoyable game with tons of laughing and only a little compaining Very Happy

Saturday morning saw the unleshing of the 8th edition demos. I ended up running 13 demos of 8th Edition. I can say that I ended up really getting a feel for the game and learning a lot of things. It was great, and at the end of the night, we raffled off 50 dollars worth of GW product. Crystal ended up winning the the raffle and grabbed some Wood Elf material.

Finally was the contruction contest end up seeing four contestants. I let them build models for about two hours (I was struggling keeping up on time with the line of people wanting a demo of 8th edition) and in the end, Andrew T ended up winning with 20 constructed Daemonettes build nicely in two hours. He decided to get more Daemons with his winnings.

It was a crazy 24 hours of Warhammer 8th. The game is super awesome, and I'm happy I was able to run as much as I did. The only complaint I had is that I still have a single rulebook left. I was hoping I could say I totally sold out of the 8th Edition books on day one. But I cannot complain, as we were able to get a couple copies of the Collector's Edition.

Warhammer Fantasy is back, and it's going to be awesome!
