Need some help, can someone who has the new 8th edition rulebook tell me if unit champions are considered characters? I no they are not independant characters, but are they classified as characters?

Champions are concidered Command models. All command models have special abilities, theirs is that they can accept and issue charges and get a look out sir. They also have to be the last model removed as a casualty in the unit. Well, that doesn't include surviving hero/lord models.

The way to keep track what Percentage group (Lord, Hero, Core, etc) a models points count against is simple.

"If the points paid are under the Unit entry that is the group points it counts as"

Say one buys a Lord with X points of magic items and Y points on a mount. All of those points go against the 25 percent lord cap.

The only time points don't count towards any Percentage group is when it is a core unit that in its entry says, "Does not count as Core." Vampire Counts are rife with these units.

In the army list book it gives the option to upgrade a regular trooper to a leader or boss if your Orc or Goblin, other races have a similar name for unit Champions. He is about the same except in number of attacks ,weapon or ballistic skill. If you have Army builder then it figures it out automatically.Rob
