DANGER DANGER DANGER

THERE IS A DISTURBANCE IN THE FARCE.

This is your only warning. There's a new Gamer in town.

Or perhaps better to say, an Old Gamer new to town...

I'm over on the West side near Dent. I have been living in a gaming void for the last couple of years and I need to roll some dice and remove my dead minis.

Where are the places to go currently to get some friendly pick-up games and the like?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Sorry, nobody plays mini games for fun anymore. I'd suggest taking up a nice, clean, polite, sport like Ice Hockey instead. Smile

Dent's a bit far out there, and suffering a little from westsiditist (the inability to get anywhere quickly, and yes I grew up in North Bend, Ohio, which is even further west).

Best gaming store on the Westside is Yottaquest (Mt Healthy), IMHO, with a nice selection, friendly staff, and they have in store gaming. There's also Up Up and Away (Harrison Ave), Sci-Fi City (Northgate Mall), and Rocking Rooster (Glenway?) if you're just looking to buy stuff.

Unfortunately, a lot of the leagues and tournaments have moved to the east side of town, which can be a hike from where you're living. (Though Yottaquest did just have a small 40K tournament, with ~6 people IIRC) I've heard it's almost quicker to go to Dayton, where you'll find Krystal Keep and the Bookery. There's a thriving Flames of War, 40K, Warmachine, and Spartan Games crowd up at Krystal Keep on Sundays.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've had to drive up to 70 miles to get to a gaming store. These are trifling distances in comparison.

After this weekend, I should have some of my stuff unpacked (if I can figure out which boxes it's in) and be able to play.
Are any of the store hosting a _____-day Night 40k/WHFB Battles?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

There are a number of stores that list this, but sadly a lot of the interest in 40K seem more subdued that usual. I see a couple of people up a Eastside Games and Cards playing every once in a while, YottaQuest runs the occasional tournament, and I usually see people up at Krystal Keep playing 40K. I know that Sean/Makari runs WHFB, and there are also some people interested in it up at EGC.

Personally I've been playing a lot of Warmachine at Krystal Keep lately, and it appears that a number of former GW fans have defected to their system with the advent of MkII Warmachine, and 8th edition WHFB.

I've also got Orks and Dark Angels for 40K.

Art of War on the east side hosts:

Monday - 40K night. Most start arriving around 6:30 or so and we go until we drop.

Satudays - WFB - from Noon until Close.

As an aside, we're also hosting the 40K 'Ard Boyz on August 13th

Art of War has had a fairly thriving 40k scene on Monday nights for more than a decade. Well, it's predecessor had most of that decade, but AoW has taken up the void and made it even better. As with most things, there are times when it's slower than others, but there's always somebody there to get a game with on Mondays and Saturdays. Mondays are better for 40k though. In addition, they also carry a varied selection of other games and minis and you can often find games of them, too. Also, at least on Mondays, people will typically stay there until the wee hours of the morning gaming, painting, or just BSing. It's not out of the ordinary to leave the store at 2 or 3 am despite the official 10:00 close.

I've been to most of the game stores in Cincy. All of them have their plus and minuses. Up, Up and Away is a great store, but more focused on comic books. Sci-Fi city is seriously hampered by time constraints, being located in a mall. Yotta Quest is less geared to mini gaming (in MY experience only) and it has a pretty small population of minis gamers. East Side is a store that I know nothing about, to be honest. There's one in NKY that has only one table, but the shop owner does seem to be quite dedicated to making a good gaming experience for people that come in (though I've never been).

In my humble opinion, Art of War is the best store in town. The focus of the store is tabletop miniatures wargaming. Not cards or board games (though you can find them, too). They have TONS of parking, plenty of room for gaming, plenty of room for your stuff, they are an extremely well-lit, clean store, and they have THE BEST terrain in town, hands down. At any time, there's a campaign of some sort running for one game or another and they usually are some sort of escalation style where you start with a small force and build it up over a couple of months. They also have a painting bar in the front of the store so you can come in and just paint or model.

Being in Dent, you're not as cut off as most of the West Side. You can shoot down the hill to I-74 and get wherever you're going fairly easily. I am also a West Sider (Delhi) and it takes me about 30 minutes to get to Art of War. From Dent, I would imagine about 45 minutes.I take 75/71 across Ft. Washington Way (hooks underneath downtown) to I-471 then out I-275 to Beechmont 5 Mile exit. If you would like to ride with me, I can take you up there on Sat evening for a couple hours to introduce you to the shop and people.

Let me know and I will send you a pm with my phone number.

YottaQuest is starting up a league in September. I have been seeing a lot more 40k at Eastside on Friday nights. I usually play at Eastside. Lots of tables and terrain. Plus, 20% off almost everything in the store is great for completing or starting a new army.
