Apocalypse Game Sept. 2nd, Open To All Empty
PostSubject: Apocalypse Game Sept. 2nd, Open To All   Apocalypse Game Sept. 2nd, Open To All EmptyFri Aug 03, 2012 6:10 pm

Hey everybody. I just joined CAG, so forgive me if I mess up any of the rules.
Ok. The point of this post is this: I'm leaving for college in September and the area I'm going to doesnt have a 40k group.
I love apocalypse because of the hundreds of models on the board and the massive death inflicted every turn. So before I leave, I want to get one last mega-game.

The Details:
When - Sunday, September the 2nd
Where - Up for debate (see bellow)
Army Restrictions - Personally, I believe in the more the merrier. So I want people to bring anything and everything they have. If there starts to be a very large amount of people coming, I might set limits. But currently, no restrictions!

As to where to have this. I have a couple of ideas in mind. My first choice would be Eastside because it has a lot of terrain available and we can probably use the whole building next door for the game (so no space restriction). But if anyone else has a suggestion or opinion, I am happy to listen to it.

IF you are interested, please post. Also, please list the army/armies you want to bring and the number of points.
I'll go first:
Tau - 5000 pts

That is certainly within the spirit of the Apoc book. Have you given any thought to other restrictions like special characters or other GW sources?

Just curious if there was a plan for a game marshal, open posting of lists/characters for peer/group review, or the honor system.

Nice, my best bud runs the Tau when there are tournaments at Origins or Gencon.

Special Characters: I want to keep the limit with only one of a unique character, aka 2 blood angle armies cant both run Dante. Im not sure what you meant by other GW sources. I'm fine with forgeworld, as long as the majority of the players are ok with it.

I'm planning on running the event. I have a senario written out and I will be reviewing the army lists when people get there. Most of it will be on the honor system for points (Idw to have to add up 50k+ points). The main thing will be to avoid copying special characters and balancing the points per side.

Makari said he is bringing Orks :30,000+/- 5000 and Marines: 10,000 (some of which can be used by others if needed)
CJ said he might bring 2k+ of Grey Knights.
My friend is coming in from out of town and he is bringing 15k of Tyranids.

Angry Bob: are you interested in coming? and if so, what army?

Anyone else interested?

Structured game, smart.

Four pitfalls to keep watch out for.
  1. Special Characters that unbalance the game with odd rules. The Necrons have one that without adjustment has no place in Apoc games. By doing some kind of review that shouldn't be a problem.
  2. Odd ball rules/units. At every Apoc games I've been too there is always a number of things that surprise people in a negative way. Kind of puts a damper on the whole honor system.
  3. Force sizes. Even at 5k points on a single player the time to complete the phases will be very noticeable. It's okay if everyone doesn't mind one side taking a full hour to complete one sides turn.
  4. Strategems. I have never seen them add fun to a game, only piss people off. My impression is GW didn't think that element all the way through.

Any of those can be worked out so long as everybody is on the same page and knows what to expect.

Calling me Bob is just fine.

If I can get Nick with his Tau planning a drive down is possible. I've got a big pile of Guard or several thousand points of Nids depending how many biomorphs are purchased.

Very interested if people involved are after a casual fun beer and pretzels game. Not so much if the goal is winning by any rule or loop-hole surprise. Apoc games are very dependent on the mindset and moral of the people involved.

Aside people may be a bit slow to catch posts in here. Good move posting early.

Apocalypse Game Sept. 2nd, Open To All Empty
PostSubject: Re: Apocalypse Game Sept. 2nd, Open To All   Apocalypse Game Sept. 2nd, Open To All EmptySun Aug 05, 2012 9:45 pm

I'll make sure to read up on all the special characters and keep an eye out for any unbalancing elements.
Force size doesnt bother me. As long as people are doing their turn and not wasting time, hour long turns dont bother me. I just hate when it takes someone 30 min to shoot 2 units. (it has happened to me WAY to often)
Personally, I like the strategems. I think they add a nice overall tactic. I agree tho that some of them (like the one that allows you to outflank a large number of troops) just unbalance it too much. My plan is to allow teams to pick strategems right before the game, with one per person, with a few of them just banned to keep the game even.

Also, if you dont mind, could you post the points for your guard, nids, and Nick's Tau? Aprox is fine. Im just trying to get a sense of the size of the game. Plus i think its helpful for others when they view this. (Thats right. Im talking about YOU.)

As for the sense of the game. My friend and I are both very laid back. The point of the game isnt winning. The point of Apoc is to field your whole army, pour out massive amounts of destruction, and have a memorable game that will help me last through the first 10 weeks at college. (and hopefully inspire me for my next army!)

Apocalypse Game Sept. 2nd, Open To All Empty
PostSubject: Re: Apocalypse Game Sept. 2nd, Open To All   Apocalypse Game Sept. 2nd, Open To All EmptyWed Aug 08, 2012 12:55 am

My apologies for some reason I marked down the wrong date. It's not going to work. To get the time aside at least two months of lead-time is needed. If this one turns out really well an another can be done in November or December hook me up.

For future reference Nick has three full squads of fire warriors, three devilfish, two full squads of Kroot, four Hammerheads (one can be converted to the missle boat), one unassembled missile boat, four piranha, 12x Crisis Suites (with the character), two squads of stealth suites, three drone sniper teams, six broadsides, and a bunch of other loose and forgotten stuff.

For my guard something like 110+ 2nd Ed Mordians, 40+ plastic and metal Catachan's (most converted to be C-Devils), 65+ plastic and metal (current) Cadians, 3x L-Russ, 3x Dem, 2x Bas, 3x Valks, 6+ Sent, 6 Chims, Baneblade, 3+ Priests, 6+ Commissars (Yarrik included), 2x Psykers, 40+ Storm Troopers (metal), 10+ Storm Troopers (plastic), 10+ Ratling Snipers, Tech Priest, a squad of conversions that could be used to make one HQ/Storm Trooper/or Kill Team.

Inquisition stuff is classified.

Nick can probably get 5k pointed out, he's done 4k comfortably before.

Mine is a bit harder with how IG units are formed. For Apoc things like Lord Castellan's Supreme Command helps to get out those spare officer and specialist figures on the table. Although unless the IG get something weird like squads of nothing but specialist weapons or veteran sergeants I'll always have figures left over.

Aside if we can ever get a big game that is focused on use poor GEQ armies that would rock. Massive battle of Tau/IG trying to fend off a sea of green. Where MEQ armies take up less than 10 percent of the game points. I'm sure Nick is open between X-mas and new years if any of those days looks good.

Come to think of it Makari might kill himself if he got stuck trying to move 20k or so points of Orcs.
