Tau for 6 edition & some other stuff too! Empty
PostSubject: Tau for 6 edition & some other stuff too!   Tau for 6 edition & some other stuff too! EmptySat Aug 04, 2012 3:00 pm

Lets start over with known good sources this time.

Stickmonkey (8-1-2012)

Tau Codex early next year.
Kroot and other existing allies are there, however they are limited. There appears to be an "Allies" supplement which will be out about the same time and include many more options. (aside: Dare I start a Spring of Allies moniker...ah well then it will end up being 2 years from now... )
Crisis suits completely redone.
Stealth suits completely redone.
Pirahna has new option and I am not sure if it will be reboxed together or be sold as an upgrade kit.
New Pathfinders were seen being worked on a while back.
Ethereals expanded, new unit options around them.
There is a FW Tau model which has a unit entry in the codex. (My take is this might actually be a new plastic kit taking over a FW model, and before anyone yells GW doesnt cannibalize FW...yes, they do, they have, and they will.)
The floating chair ethereal was seen being worked on for a new model.
New fast skimmer sized between hammerhead and pirahna.
Flyer has dual gattling cannons
Flyer has option for rail guns
Flyer has bombs (not missiles!?)

Rule rumors (these are rumors people! I hate posting rule rumors cause I am not involved in that. Please take fwiw)
Railguns have a JOWW effect, they can hit multiple models in a line, but if hitting vehicles has a max number of hull points it can cause. the way this is described is it draws a line from the barrel to table edge, every model under starts taking hits starting with the closest. if it hits a vehicle or structure with HP, its strength drops, once it hits 3 or a table edge or fails to make a penetrating hit its done. rhino line's watch out!
There is some rumor of an Anti Psyker weapon. like night fighting, but no psychic powers for a game turn.
There is no flyer dedicated transport, and the existing flyer is going to be competing against some very good other options
The jetpack troops have some option to "pop up and shoot" from behind cover.

Ornithopter (8-1-2012)

I was told, that GW is trying to invert their release order. Instead of two follow up waves after a Codex release they will release one or two smaller waves of models before every codex, one big release with the codex and some stragglers thereafter (mainly re-releases and model updates). This is widely known and not hard to deduce. But I was also told that this is only a test run for two upcoming releases and GW is fully prepared to switch back to the old modus operandi or a completely different release schedule.

GW has used the period of reduced LotR activity to produce new ranges far in advance. GW sits on a whole pile of army books/codexes and finished masters and has the flexibility to alter their release schedule seamlessly. The next two releases (Warriors of Chaos and Dark Angels) follow the old pattern, but the next two releases (Tau and Eldar) after these are deployed in the new fashion.

The Tau Codex was pushed back because of this, but only the book. The first batch of models will be released even earlier than planned (maybe even this year) – and yes, there are Kroots and no, there is no Lamprey – this whole set of rumours is 105% fake.

Faeit 212 (8-2-2012)

Flyer waves incoming: Four more fliers in the pipeline: renamed Eldar Nightwing (finished), Tau Copperhead (finished), and a medium sized Space Marine and a large Ork flyer.

Model production and codex production are decoupled after the planning phase now. Warriors of Chaos, Dark Angels, Chaos Space Marine codices are finished, Tau and High Elves nearly finished.

Every army rulebook from now on will have a special defining mechanic.
- Tau have a system of unit upgrades that get unlocked by another unit or other effects. For example, a Firewarrior cadre with an ethereal next to it, with markerlight support and scouting kroot unit will get a serious buff. Every unit has a small chart for three of these effects.

You didn't think we've forgotten about the Tau Empire did you? Here's the latest on the grapevine for our blue fishy friends.

via stickmonkey
Schedule:
2013 Q2/3 (lots in front of it)

Allies:
Kroot are in - 1 to 2 new units including a beastly transport. ~probably the Great Knarloc
They may have more options in a later supplement.
No Demiurge

Crisis Suits:
Several new crisis suits.
More elegant style than current suits.
New smaller suit stealth-suit sized model designed for close combat.
New larger suit, with 2 twin linked rail cannons and a missile option.

Plastic Pathfinders

Remora Drone fighter (and possibly a second "Copperhead" flyer) is in
-dual gatling cannons
-rail gun option
-AA missiles or bombs option (pick one)

Railguns
Railguns have a JOWW effect, able to hit multiple models in a line, but if hitting vehicles has a max number of hull points it can cause. Draws a line from the barrel to table edge, or the weapons max range. Every model under starts taking hits starting with the closest. If the railshot hits a vehicle or structure with Hull Points, its strength drops. Once it hits 3 or a table edge or fails to make a penetrating hit it's done.

More Tau Rumors:

Word is the blue fishmen are inching closer to completion. Here's the latest set of whispered rules.

via Stickmonkey

Caveat: Many of these are said to be "in process". Don't look for *exact match* rules to survive to the printed codex.

Units
Crisis Suits: Look for more posable new models. Unit keeps its high level of customization, with several upgrades to stat lines possible. New flakk missile pods. New combi-kit includes Broadside parts.

Stealth Suits: Models unchanged. Have stealth, (obviously), plus optional drone granting shrouding.

Sky Ray: Last edition's trainwreck gets a new lease on life. Flakk missiles, plus has orbital bombardment (much like SM version, but with a lingering effect).

Fire Warriors: Same nasty gun. Still BS:3, but with a Shas'O can upgrade unit to BS:4.

Equipment
Drones: Any drone can be used for Look Out Sir rolls for any model in the unit they are attached to.

Markerlights: A single hit increases BS of all other units targeting the victim by +1. Multiple markerlights have no additional effects. OUCH - look out for possible BS:5, Fire Warrior volleys now! Markerlights improve snapfire against marked flyers to 5+ instead of 6, but must first hit the flyer with a 6 themselves.

Networked Markerlights: A longer range twin linked version. Vehicles only.

PostSubject: Re: Tau for 6 edition & some other stuff too!   Tau for 6 edition & some other stuff too! EmptySun Feb 10, 2013 11:00 am

by natfka:

This last week we had a huge insurgence of rumors regarding Tau, and whispers of Daemons just beyond the veil. Both Chaos Daemons and Tau are coming soon.

Piercing the veil of the etherium, daemonic whispers break the silence of the void. They are coming, and when the furies of hell are unleashed upon us, there are few that can stand before them. Stand fast, hold to the Emperor's words, and pray that your will is strong enough to weather the coming storm.

Chaos Daemons
Chaos Daemons are rumored to be a full codex release just around the corner, with pre-orders said to be at the end of the month. We have heard little of what will be released, and this week, rumors are showing us two separate waves. One alongside the codex, and one later this summer.

from Stickmonkey
Wave 1 alongside the codex
BloodThirster/Skarbrand (plastic)
Great Unclean One (plastic)
Chariot of Khorne/Herald of Khorne/Khorne Cannonade (anyone remember the old epic Doom Blaster)
Plague Flies of Nurgle
Palanquin of Nurgle/KuGath upgrade/Herald of Nurgle
Fiend of Slaanesh
There is also word of a named Daemon Prince and several smaller finecast models as well.

Wave 2 penciled in for June
Keeper of Secrets/(Named GD of Slaanesh)
Lord of Change/Fateweaver
Furies/(Chaos ground daemons...I've heard this alternate kit unit has an "unstable" rules granting them an extra save, a 12" teleport, and a chance to lose models (determined randomly).
Hounds of Khorne
An all new Tzeentch Flyer... (NOT the Heldrake)
Chariot of Tzeentch/ Flame cannon alt kit)

Tau
There has been a lot of rumors coming about Tau. Most of it seems to be playtest rules from late last year. While a lot of it comes from Stickmonkey, I have included bits from Faeit 212 (a couple different anonymous sources).

Psychic Defense
Tau having little presence in the warp, get a re-roll for Deny the Witch.
Tau in Suits get a 5+ Deny the Witch

Kroot Monster
Expensive and short lived, as its a CC beast the size of a Maulerfiend
Monstrous Creature with Trample Attack: 3d6 causes 2d6 S6 AP6 wounds

Uber Suit
Playtest statlines WS3 BS5 S5 T7 W3 I3 A2 L8
Plasma weapon with ignore cover
It's a mobile weapon platform, with rail guns as it's main weapon system, - which can be upgraded to a plasma weapon system or ion cannons. Classified as monstrous creature. 2+/4++ save. It can forgo shooting and movement to gain 2++ save. The Uber can move as jump infantry if it does not shoot it's main weapons.

Fire Warriors
BS3 but can be upgraded to BS4 with a 50pt squad leader

Ethereals
Grant various army wide special rules, similar to Dark Angel banners

Kroot
Scout, Furious Charge, Move through Cover
Kroot Hounds and Kroot Hawks
Shaper unlocks additional upgrades

Sneaky Kroot (obviously not the name)
An elite type unit that can hide in terrain like Ymgarl Genestealers

Vespid
The maligned bug men are redeemed! Big improvements, weapon range increase, point reduction, hit and run.

Fortifications
Deep striking turrets as fortification options. Burst cannons or missile pods options.

Stealth Suits
Models unchanged. Have stealth, plus optional drone granting shrouding.

Sky Ray
Flakk missiles, plus has orbital bombardment (much like SM version, but with a lingering effect).
orbital blast ability. sky ray has to forgo his full turn
strength X AP 3 (wound on 2+,plasma corrosion, blast) plasma corrosion - any enemy model hit under the blast rolls a d6 every turn for the remainder of the game on a roll of 1-3 the unit or model suffers d6 strength 4 AP5 hits. On a roll of 4-5 the unit suffers 2d6 strength 5 AP 4 hits. On a roll of a 6 the unit is hit with 2d6 strength 6 AP 2 hits with the blind special rule. (these are test rules and subject to change)

Equipment
Drones: Any drone can be used for Look Out Sir rolls for any model in the unit they are attached to.

Markerlights
A single hit increases BS of all other units targeting the victim by +1. Multiple markerlights have no additional effects. OUCH - look out for possible BS:5, Fire Warrior volleys now! Markerlights improve snapfire against marked flyers to 5+ instead of 6, but must first hit the flyer with a 6 themselves.

Networked Markerlights
A longer range twin linked version. Vehicles only.

More Tau stuff. It's starting to look really good for The Geater Good! Smile

posted on faeit 212

There are times when the goodness (or the Greater Good in this case) just keeping on coming. More Tau rumor bits are filtering through our community, and when we keep on seeing this many hints, it just seems the puzzle pieces are all starting to add up.

Does this mean I am on the April release wagon when it comes to a Tau codex? Well, I at least have one leg on the wagon, and one leg still on the ground. Of course that means that I am being dragged down the road. So here's to looking at a hopeful Tau codex Release sometime before I get hurt.

There was some later developments today about the release of Tau coming in June. These are listed below from shaso_iceborn. Its also worth mentioning as well that Hastings had predicted Tau in April as well.

Faeit 212 Comment Section
via groffus in the comment section of Faeit 212 March 7, 2013 at 6:35 AM
The owner of my local store told me yesterday that he was unable to get a copy of the current Tau codex to put on display. When he pushed he was told that he could not get one because there was none any more, he should wait until next month to order one that there should be plenty then.

I play Tau myself and I am beginning to start to believe :-)

Compilation of Tau Hints
The following are compiled via Tastyfish onWarseer
Eliath pm'd me with some info from WD that supports the idea that Tau are pretty imminant and also that it seems the FW suits are still compatible with the new kits

via Elaith
Could well be nothing but in reading through at least a couple of articles in this months White Dwarf, there are references to Staffers working on Tau forces.

Jeremy's article starts with him working on a FW Battlesuit and later someone is mentioned to be working on a Tau force.

Likely nothing, but are staffers getting their Tau forces moving prior to release... only time will tell.

via Huru MorDae
Today a friend of mine working in management for a hobby store received a call from his supplier asking for all tau hammerheads, broadsides, and codex to be pulled from the shelves and returned to gw.

Today's Developments
Updated with Correction (Thank you Shaso_iceborn)

Reposting to avoid confusion, Tau will be released in April alongside a new Farsight model and new Kroot HQ.

March 7, 2013 at 10:57 AM
Are you guys ready for April and the lightened wallet the new Tau codex brings? 2 New Fliers, 2 new Suit options, a Uber-suit, New kroot HQ option, lots of new kits and better rules and options. Us Tau are about to finally get RETRIBUTION!!!! Sorry imperial players but I will be "lighting" you up here very soon.

More Tau stuff

Please remember to take a little salt with this, These are Rumors.

via superawesomeraptorman on Warseer
Heard a couple of things through the grapevine. They COULD be complete tosh, they could be awesome insights. I'd say the usual dosage of salt.

HQ
- New firewarrior leader - can give certain squads special abilities
- Ethereal have auras - apparently they are ok, nothing to write home about
- no honor guard
- New tank commander special character - has preferred enemy imperial guard (?), use on a hammerhead apparently (best tank to use)
- no HQ alters FOC apparently

Elites
- Crisis suits no new sprue, getting repackaged into 3. This seems to contradict people hearing about a new recut - apparently commanders sprue (special issue weapons) will sneak in here?
- no stealth on stealth suits, will have something to make them harder to shoot still (maybe?)

Troops
- fire warriors 9 points - no idea about new upgrades etc
- kroot lose one point of strength (really that sounds lame)

Fast
- Pathfinders don't take devilfish anymore
- piranhas are cheaper, but not much different
- flyers go here - apparently one is anti air. Not really much news, but apparently dual kit but neither version amazing (more like a dark angels rather than necron flyer kit)

Heavy Support
- Submuntions purchased for hammerheads
- Broadside have strength 8 rail guns -_- BUT can buy skyfire (expensive) but cannot buy A.S.S
- Giant new walker here - pretty tough to kill, apparently his weapons are interesting. I wanted more details, couldn't get them

New abilities
- Single squad gets charged - every unit within 6" can overwatch into the charging squad
- Squad ability from commander (can't remember which one). If unit does not move AT ALL (no relentless, S&P tricks) every model gets extra shot. I got the impression that you can't use jet pack move with this either
- Two marker light hits = NO cover at all (not a marker light hit per -1 cover). Usual BS upgrade
- Seeker missiles can skyfire
- Multi-trackers come standard on crisis suits (or free? dunno which)

General Stuff
- Haven't heard anything about new kroot or vespid stuff
- Haven't heard anything about ANY new race, but wasn't exactly told no new race as opposed to nothing was mentioned

Honestly all I can remember, it might fly in the face of everything we know, and a plastic kit seems to be missing (fire warrior HQ, Flyer, Big Suit plus something?)

Right, just gotten off of the comlink to my contact in the icy north. Let's see now...
The codex is by Vetock.
The Ubersuit will not be competing for your Heavy slots.
Ion weapons will be overloadable.
Units will be able to overwatch to defend nearby comrades.
A new item of support gear will grant skyfire.

If this is true, I'm not super happy about it. I wasn't crazy about what he did with Dark Angels, so I'm hoping he doesn't F up Tau.

It is my firm belief that all codexes will be updated to the new 6th philosophy. That is a forced move away from competetivness. So, your crons are safe now, but not forever.

That just means they'll probably be last. Three codexes are not enough to go on, but it does seem the trend. I do not think the crons will avoid the nerf bat. Sorry to say.

More stuff,

In this set, there were some bits of information floating around over on 3++, so this is what was found. Please remember that these are rumors, some salt is always required.

via 3++ is the New Black (from inside the Chatbawks)
Broadsides - 85 pts with S8 Ap1 Skyfire; not sure if this is in place of old S10 AP1 or if the 85 points + skyfire is an option but its there
Hammerheads - regardless of what Railguns are now in general, keeps S10 AP1
SMS - twin-linked, ignores cover
Crisis Suits - not likely to move to Troops as an option
Disruption Pods - only +1 cover

More good stuff for Tau!

There was a lot of overreactions earlier today about broadsides and what they are to become next month with a new Tau codex release (assuming its next month). So one of the sources here put together much more detail, so that Tau players can get a sense of what of what to expect.

Personally, having a S8 twin-linked AP1 skyfire weapon is huge. Throw three of them into a unit, and you have a very reliable anti-flyer unit. X 3 or more in a 2000+ game, and you have a unit that looks like it will be able to control the sky from the ground.

Please remember that these are rumors, although very solid ones.

via an anonymous source
*Broadsides are Slow and Purposeful, 2+ and T4 now.
*They are twin linked str8 ap1 railguns and can take plasma or missiles as well.
*They have a suit upgrade that let's them at the start of a shooting phase have skyfire.
*They don't have interceptor, nor do they snap fire ground targets.
*The only thing I notice is that the unit chooses to skyfire or not. So if you use split fire, you can't mix firing at ground targets and flyers easily.
*They're really, really good.
*Semi mobile and very durable. They're the only non interceptor skyfire unit in the game that can survive flyer alpha strike.
*The tears and overreactions over out of context snippets is mind-blowing.

More Tau stuff, enjoy!

April looks to be the release month for Tau, and wow, are there going to be some controversial changes coming. Not only were Tau a hot topic of the week, with pics now flowing, but Orks made their appearances alongside their little kin, Gretchin.

Alien races push at every edge of the Imperium, yet the future burns bright with their dead, littering a thousand worlds. I have forseen the threats of the Tau, Ork, and many more. The veil of the premonition will reveal them to me, and I to you. Sing praise to the Emperor of Mankind, for salvation, and victory await.
Tau
There has been a lot of information coming in this week regarding Tau. Some of what we have seen this week is conflicting, and I am going to go over some of the highlights here, of course more detail can be found over on Faeit 212, and in the Bols Lounge

Lets start with the most controversial.....

Broadsides
*Broadsides are Slow and Purposeful, 2+ and T4 now.
*They come with twin linked Rail Guns str8 ap1 railguns and can take plasma or missiles as well.
*They have a suit upgrade that let's them at the start of a shooting phase have skyfire.
*They don't have interceptor, nor do they snap fire ground targets.
*Can Splitfire still
*85pts- that includes base cost + skyfire upgrade

Rail Weapons
Rail Rifle S6 AP3
Rail Gun S8 AP1
Rail Cannon S10 AP1

Fire Warriors
*Have the option for all Firewarrior units within 6" to fire Overwatch
*Have a new special HQ
*Apparently this can potentially be 4 if the Fire Warrior special character is also attached.
*A character that allows Firewarriors to consolidate after Overwatch

Uber Suit

There is something missing in the Tau codex bits we have heard....... Kroot. We very much expected them to be expanded upon, and yet there is nothing really new that we have seen so far. Are Kroot even in the new codex? What is this Allies Supplement we have been hearing about?

The Kroot may very well be in the codex, even if its in the same form they are now currently; one or two entries. However, there are rumors that an allied supplement is approaching, and this is where many allied forces (secondary detachment type) will be dealt with and expanded upon. The Kroot could very well be here in force, as well as the Gretching, Vespid, Genestealer Cults, Eldar Pirates, Renegade Guard, and much more. The rumors certainly point to something like this being worked on.

So I dug in a little bit, and dug up a little bit of information regarding rumors for an allied supplement that should be approaching us very soon.

I am sure there is more good rumor bits on this site somewhere that I have missed. If you run across some please link in the comments.

From what I've heard of the allies codex - don't take this as gospel - but the whole point apparently is to take an element of existing 40k forces, so for example Eldar pirates, renegade guard and possibly Kroot, limit them in some fashion but allow them to keep the same flavour, and in exchange they're battle brothers as you're bartering/trading/enslaving them.

My own theory on this is we won't see this until after codex Eldar, maybe even Orks, and this is why the xenos forces are getting a lot of love recently. So when the allies dex is released, all the special rules and abilities they get will be reflected in the existing codices. Final point, I believe this is where SoB will be going, and suspect Assassins and Legion of the Damned will be in it as well. I guess the grot list might be in there too but I honestly didn't ask as this conversation I had was several weeks ago.

As for an allies supplement, I was told that next year 40K will have a release very similar in format to the Warhammer Fantasy Storm of Magic supplement. In other words a book, cards and kits that could be used in multiple armies, in the same vein as the monsters from WHFB.

I assumed it would be a big supplement for Psykers, but it could just as well be for allies, as that seems to be the best way for GW to produce new kits without having to invest in a full 'Dex for them.

Now I hate to put Summer into any rumours, but I believe Storm of Magic was released about that time, which would put Tau and allies around June or July ish? However rumours strongly point to Eldar being early in the year, so I'm not sure if we would get 2 Xenos Codexes back to back? Unless GW really are going to do a release every month.

Kroot and other existing allies are there, however they are limited. There appears to be an "Allies" supplement which will be out about the same time and include many more options. (aside: Dare I start a Spring of Allies moniker...ah well then it will end up being 2 years from now...  )
My sources are telling me kroot are in fact still part of Tau, and have a new unit or two including a beastly transport. They may have more options in a later supplement.
I also checked into the demiurge rumors, and was told "There are no demiurge in the Tau codex."

More Tau rumors conflicting with other Tau rumors which go along with other ally rumors? scratch Salt Please!

Kroot, Vespid..... Will they be in the Tau codex? Everyone has been rather silent about it until now. Here finally is a rumor that cuts right into the subject, the Answer...... No Aliens. However, this bit declares there will be an Allied Supplement with the aliens that are missing in the Tau codex, Kroot and Vespid, and even another race.........

Please remember that these are rumors, and that some salt is always required.

- Aliens are out. No Kroot, no nothing.
- There will be some kind of supplement with alien allies. With Kroot,
Vespids and a race described in "The Greater Good" novel. I don't know
when, I don't know if it's a codex or WD thing or anything.
- Broadside Railguns can choose each round if: Str 8 Ap1/ Str 6 AP3 blast
- Tank/ Riptide Railguns have Str 10 AP1, I don't know about the fire
modes.
- Tank commander gives skyfire to the tanks
