Ork noob help Empty
PostSubject: Ork noob help   Ork noob help EmptySun May 13, 2012 10:02 am

Okay I need some help guys...btw this is Jon writing you all from Ft. Bragg. I have never really been a fan of orks, but I have a crazy idea I just came up with and I am going to be using another line of miniatures, but going to use the Ork rules. I need to know what would a fun but somewhat competitive list look like? I am not looking for "Can Wall" as that is competitive but boring to me. I want to actually have some dudes..anyway if some of you long time Ork players could help me get a grasp on these guys I would appreciate it. Not asking you to build a list for me, just what unts work what ones really dont...vehicles; wich are good, which are overpriced...ideal squad sizes? is there one? how do you outfit your squad leaders? Thanks in advance for your time....

respectfully,
Jon

Orks come in 3 sizes:
Mobs of 12. These go in a truck, They always have a Nob with bosspole & PowerClaw. Sluggas are good here.
They are great when you get the charge, but suck when their truck explodes, they are pinned in the rubble. and then take a charge. If you run trucks, run a lot of them. I had 5 in a 1250 list once, and it was funfunfun...

Mobs of 20. These go in a battlewagon, They always have a Nob with bosspole & PowerClaw (pattern here!)
They are great when you get the charge, but suck when their BW explodes, they are pinned in the rubble. and then take a charge. Sluggas or Shootas here, depending if you are running 'moving pillboxes' or a straight assault force... Battlewagons are great vehicles (well, the best we got). Deffrollas rock. I like boarding planks. I like red paint. Don't put on a lot of guns (just a bigshoota or 2) think of it as a 'sled' that will descend on your enemies and dump out your army...

Mobs of 30. These go on foot, They always have a Nob with bosspole & PowerClaw.
They need cover (walk them behind Kans, grots, vehicles or plant them in cover.) Shootas are good here. Orks have bad shooting - but they are assault2 guns, and 60 dice will usually kill something! If you want them to be Sluggas 25 will work too (and they are easier to maneuver...)

If you don't want a Kan line - go with 3 Battlewagons (at least 2 with deffrollas) a Mek with Force Field, truck full of Meganobs, and some fast things (Buggies or Coptas) add some Lootas for support and it is fun & fast to play. Orks are fun because they have many different builds. They are not 'top of the list' competitive, but always fun. If you want to see a bunch of Ork lists go to: http://www.the-waaagh.com/home.htm.

I have seen Kroot run as Orks (in pictures) -- and they would be great for 'MadMax' style humans too!! Esp. with trucks and bikes!!

I concur with Scott with his Boyz lists.

I am definitely more about the bikes then the kopters. and no you dont need nob bikers the regular ones do great.
Having said that The bikers work well when you take at least 3 units of 7-8 with the Nob with Power Klaw and Boss Pole as one of those 7-8. Wazdakka is an obvious choice for HQ here if you take bikes.

The following can be taken as spam lists or 1/2 list. i.e. you can double each or take 2 different ones listed below.
Wazdakka with 3 Units of 7-8 bikers.
Big Mek with KFF 3 Deff Rolla Battlewagons 3 units of 20 Boyz(1 unit being 19 for Big Mek) slugga choppas
Warboss with 3 Units of 30 Boyz, Shootas, Nob with power klaw, 3 big shootas

I personally start every list theswe days with mad dok grotsnik with 15 Kommandos and snikrot all with cybork bodies, & 2 burnas.
i then choose 2 of the choices above depending on what I feel like playing at the time.

Also for Orks EVERY Nob leader should be equipped with a Power Klaw. If the unit is 20 or less give him a boss pole.
You will be amazed how many armies get rolled by the 30 ork boy shoota units!!!
And with Snikrot able to sneak on from any board edge of your choosing your opponent will not stay near the edge unless they are asking for it... from snikrot. Which will inturn get their army closer for the rest of your army to chomp!!!

The tactics of Sun Tzu work well with Orks, assume they are peasants.... Flanking maneuvers and center force displacement works very well!
