Is this for 5th edition rules or for some 4th games? I think if its for 5th you will need more scoring units, especially for recon (the d3+2 counters). I dont know if this will help any in your decision making process but I plan on trying out something like this:

I know Marc, I miss 1850 too Sad Its a hard decision between the extra deamons and the oblit.... I think the oblit will help with killing the enemy, but the deamons do bump you up too 4 scoring units. A little play testing should tell you which is more important.

I'd consider dumping the terminators. For how expensive they are, they just aren't as useful in 5th imo. Then add more scoring units (either demons or another marine squad).

1850 just fit better didn't it? Smile

I'm leaning towards the Raptors to dump. With the Rhinos in there they were able to support each other. Now they go off on their own. Unsure

Both the Term and the Raptors are Melta delivery systems.

I think raptors are better for it. Plus they have more tactical diversity if not doing that. Perhaps drop the Terms and add another raptor squad?

MoK really needed on them? You are in that semi-cheese zone of cherry picking from different gods...

Another reason they should go, yet the models are Berserkers. I can paint them up all purty Khorne looking for eBay and such. I can paint and sell the Iron Warrior Termies as well. No worries there.

Time to think outside the collection.

What about a 10 Noise Marine bunker squad with just a Champ for pure dz camping Neutral

Yup, much cheaper too.

Just need to use something different for the middle bit.

OR to save time you could use a single turbine per Ork. Just make them out of large materials.

yeah, too bad the DP cannot take a Personal Icon Sad

I'm looking at at least 2 Troops to castle and push the 3rd squad Icon forward with DP in tow. I just don't think a Rhino will cut it. I just need some games in..

Chaos will be tougher than I thought.

Yeah it's not easy any more Smile

The Land Raider seems a bit on the overkill side for what he is providing. I'm just not sure 16 demons, 10 marines and a Demon Prince is enough to deal with threats in the mid-field.

Perhaps the other squads should be more shooty if they are to hang back.

Looks to me though that either a gunline or an over assaulty army will easily deal with both elements... just not enough bang for the buck.

The LR is quite a bit OT but multiple Rhino squads would be doomed IMO. I would need at least three and thats not happening. Full Rhino squads come in at 265 Rolling Eyes

The other idea would be to have 2 five marine squads in the dz with the Havocs while the Prince and Land Raider went off. It is 24 Daemons, but still.

Dropping the 3rd squad Champion points would yield a Rhino APC keeping the 2nd full squad at pace.

I think that gives you a bit more of an ability to jump out and not get stomped. Lacks AT though (kind of just realized that Sad)

I dunno man, perhaps a different plan of attack all together (after a few playtests of course).

yeah, my vision was a wall of redundant power armour providing layered covering fire as they poured over the field. Now I have a Land Raider and a Rhino with Daemons trying to cover my holes Laughing Rolling Eyes

I'll just work on painting what I have and get at it later. This damn PDF has me thinking waay too much over this game. I guess they're on to something. I still think horde is the way to go.

No worries on the Ravenwing thoughts. Take your time (tho I still want it Wink ) I'll put my list up and we can go from there.

So here we are again so soon. I'm a little more comfotable here even though the 2nd Chosen unit will be strained. They actually have the same role as the Raptors, but more resiliant. They can even deploy on a flank if I'm lucky. The 2nd Havoc squad will be my APC/Speeder busters as four Lascannons are ridiculous steep. The combat squads will attatch to their own Havoc squad and simply look to survive. Having the need to throw points at them is a bit of a hit as in the past you could rely on the Heavies to just sit and contest.

*sigh* Its still not whats needed to be competetive in 5th IMO. There just are not enough points and thats probably a good thing in the design in regards to the overall scope of the game. Orks, horde Tyranids and even Imperial Guard will have their time at the top. Chaos could do with a cheap meat shield such as Cultists, but then it wouldn't be Codex Chaos Space Marines would it.
