5th edition studs Empty
PostSubject: 5th edition studs   5th edition studs EmptySun Feb 10, 2008 10:09 am

Heres hoping folks have had time to digest the 5th PDF and I was wondering where people will be going with their own armies and/or if they are looking to colect a new one.

..and why of course Very Happy

After witnessing the (non) performance of my Chaos vs John and scrolling thru my current model collection and where I'd like the list to go I am now all set to start over.
Actually my boys are not far off.
It would be easier if you just played @ 2000pts Laughing

Some super quick thoughts :

Orks - with screening and cheap redundant Troops they should excel
Chaos Marines - solid Troop choice yet points are hard to come by
Daemonhunters - access to multiple Land Raiders helps
Dark Eldar - transports pop on a 3+ from most AT weapons, 2+ from an ap 1
Eldar - wildcard as your Troops can be Jetbikes. Run Wraithguard Run
Imperial Guard - a comeback of the human horde? Light Infantry doctrine, yes please
Necrons - tough break on Gauss yet very good Troops choice
Space Marines - Deathwing still score! Now I know why Scouts are Elite
Tau Empire - we may see more Kroot as scoring and flank reserves
Tyranids - with screening and cheap redundant Troops they should excel
Witch Hunters - Exorcist is great! SoB trooper is cheap power armour.

I haven't had much time to think about all the other codex but Im going Mech with my Marines. Probably 6 Combat squads with Razorbacks and a command squad in a LRC is what im thinking. Probably 3 las/melta squads and 3 Plas/flamer. This is assuming you can take razorbacks with 10 man combat squads.

I want to see 20 man nurgle squads taking objectives, I dont know what will take them out...

The only thing Im going to have to do is nothing for my blood angels, they really dont need much changeing to fit 5th ed, I am almost all troops(4 squads of 10 im combat squading, givieng my 8 scoreing units) and for space wolves Im going to just need more blood claws I do belive(and of course more power fists......I now cant seem to get enough of them), as for Daemonhunters.....well for me im keeping them as a support unit for apoc, my witchhunters may just have to be built up to 1750 at one point or another(long time till) with the nice multi melta transport(only if you have 6 models or less in a squad but still nice units) as for the rest I have enough armies in 40k I dont think Ill be starting a new one any time soon

With my DA I'm going to be building up my regular marine company. I'm thinking a all comer army, gun line with a good counter assault + some a deathwing/ravenwing for good measure. Perhaps hording my deathwing or rolling them convoy style like I do right now (Scoring terminators and LRC's should be pretty fun in 5th).

I'll be buying lots of tactical marines + transports Smile

With my deahtguard I'll be hording palguemarines, a few large squads with a few squads in rhinos. Should be hard for the enemy to deal with... then I just need some AT to reach out and touch anything that negates my FNP.

wait here you say the orks and the nids are the same thing... now i play both and have my whole warhammer playing career and there are a couple of differences that you might want to add including...

Nids don't have vehicles. sooo don't worry so much about melta and monstrous creatures as much when playing them plus all troops are not all good you need a good resource of synapse creatures

orks are awesome with there vehicles better them even the vehicles of the eldar and tau because of there ability to take less damage in there transports plus they are very mutable each are special in there own way

Cowbomber you are smoking crack right? Have you even looked at the competitive warhammer scene in the last 3 years?

You just said Ork vehicles are better than eldar vehicles....

and not to worry about monstrous creatures when fighting tyranids...

Go play some more games homeslice...

Most of the people I've shown the forum to aren't very tournament-esque people. But I agree, Cal do you need help with that blow to the head?
