PS3

Now that Blu Ray has won the battle, I am considering buying a PS3 just because a Blu Ray player is about the same price. Being a gamer geek, it make sense to me to spend the extra $50.00 to play games on my Blu Ray player. Anyone seen Blu Ray Players cheap enough to change my mind?

You'll be hard pressed to find one. I haven't noticed any. It will happen pretty quickly now that blu ray won though. So if you wait, I'm sure cheaper stand alone players are coming.

It was getting DVD player that got me to get a playstation 2 back in the day. Up until then I had actually weened myself off of the next generation of video games.

I also thought that the PS3 had one of the best blue-ray players.

One thing announced today was the following

80gb PS3 (software backwards compatibility)
1 copy of Metal Gear Solid 4
1 DualShock 3 (yay)

500 bones.

I'm getting this package for sure. Seeing as metal gear is the only game I see myself playing on there this year (and no, despite what they tell you FF13 will not be this year... unless pigs start flying).

There is one thing that Sony did that made me rather unhappy. Limiting the backwards compatability on some systems. It's sloppy and pretty rude. This is what has made me somewhat concerned that if I get a system it will be the wrong one. I don't keep many games but the ones I do hold onto are personal classics.

When i finaly get a ps3(which I will at some point) I dont plan on getting rid of my ps2 for the reason, the same problem excist for the 360 and with my luck none of the games I like would be able to be played on the current generation of consols

I have the PS3 and a plethera of PS2 games and I have not had any issues of backwards compatibility... except the %@#$*! Guitar Hero Guitar not working for anything other than Guitar hero 3 for PS3, not even GH3 for PS2! But the games still play!

Makari you probably have one of the earlier systems that has true hardware backwards compatibility... this was taken out of later skus of the console. Or replaced with software backwards compatibilty (like 360) but this is on the devs (thus not many have done it).

The 40GB is not backwards compatible.
The 60GB is somewhat backwards compatible
The 80GB is mostly backwards compatible...

The others that have bought PS3's as of late: 2 people in December, 2 in Jan. based off what is clearly stated on the Sony website have not had any issues with backwards compatibility because guess which one they bought too!
I apologize it has been an extremely long day. . . Been arguing XBOX 3(shitty)60 vs. P(lease)S(uck)3 with guys at my work that Razzed me for buying my PS3 cause it was BlueRay... Now they are pissed cause their cheaper than my system is costing them more per month and now they have to replace their already antiquated HD-DVD player...
ANywhoo I'm sorry just venting and yes I know PS3 doesn't have as many good games... or the refresh rate is lower and it's "choppy".
For the price IMO I love the PS3 cause I love the Madden, and NCAA games, COD4, Assassins Creed, Gran Turismo, Starwars Legos, Vrtua Tennis, and soon the Big Show!
They have all I want, and a next gen platform player that can upgrade itself.

Cool, most of the games you listed are cross platform (madden being 60 fps on the 360 and 30 on the PS3).

It does make sense for someone that doesn't play online a bunch and wants a next gen player (blu-ray). For me, 360 still wins. Mainly because of live.

This yeah though, I will be moving over to PS3 (well owning both anyway). Mainly because the line up is much better for PS3 than 360 this year.

I've had no problems with all our old PS games playing, though I have the 80GB Motorcross deal version I suppose. My daughter just bought a PS2 "karaoke" High School Musical game with her horded Holiday money... damn thing had a USB mic

Why the hell can I never "join a party" lately on CoD4? Just recently I'm getting "Server Full"

Ok yes the "free" wireless connection, you get what you pay for, gets annoying with not being able to stay in parties or join friends all the time.
And get the server full notice on CoD4...
Damn good thing the game is still fun to play... now if only I could get people to stop chatting about stupid sh*% and actually coordinate an attack or defence that would be even better!

I liked killing the punk talking pregame shite today and then picked up his own gun and pasted the twirp a dozen times. Though I forgot about the Sabotage Mission and lost.. ah well. Damn kids

I was at the Sony store tonight and they are spreading rumors of a new PS3 coming out this summer that is fully PS2 backwards cmpatible and possibly having a 120gb hdd. Just thought I would share that.
