What are the boards thoughts on these Named Characters? GW has went away from the "opponents permission" clause of old and has even gone as far in the DA codex to pretty much require a Named Character for Deathwing and Ravenwing builds.

Do you use them?

Would you be miffed if an opponent showed up with one or even two?

Do you even care?

Would you like fries with that?

I've kind of gotten used to samael or mephiston stalking the board after playing bruce and matt a couple of times. The named characters are pretty good, but I don't think they are ridiculously overpowered anymore. Playing against abaddon isn't quite the same as a hard to kill speeder with an ass cannon and a heavy bolter. Plus soon we'll probably all be having at least a counts as special character once codices get updated.

I don't mind playing them. Usually they make the game more interesting with weird special rules and such.

I don't have an issue with named characters. They have their point to balance them out somewhat. Besides with all the ones in teh New Ork Codex I find it very difficult not to take at least 2 or more. I can't not take Snikrot.

Sean Snikrot is sooooo gross. Haha, if i was an ork player i'd never leave home without him.

I think named characters are pretty balanced, only a few that are broken imo. Then the big ones like abby have a really hard time making their points back, even if they are nasty.

In the Apokolypse book there was some comment about them considering requiring one named character in each force.

IG ones don't much impress me these days. That might effect why I don't really care for them. Or it might have been seeing the same one ALL the time back at Cincinnati Scifi.

Then again I think Macarious is on the GW website somewhere.

Where is that comment?

Agreed, but let's be honest... the IG codex is pretty garbage overall right now.

I miss Macharius, had cool fluff too.

It is towards the front where they explained why the games used objectives rather than kill totals. More of a side comment about the book development than anything else.

Matt you make me laugh in a good way. The IG are challenging and with how the game is they are more flavor than anything else. The big irony for me is how to avoid using too many regular infantry platoons for most games.

Someone else said he was on the GW website. Found him. Good for an old time chuckle.

I like the Ig book, but I have never had a problem fighting any characters from any army due to the fact that most are not worth their own points

OT but the Guard really need to come down in points to be effective. They also could use a nice objective grabber (ex Humvee) as its either static gunline or boring plasma drop ftw..

more like ftsw (for the sometimes win Wink).

I hear they are one of the first to be hit in 5th, so hopefully they fix things. I agree that they are more flavor right now, but they are only marginally competitive at best. Shame, because I love the models... but don't like spend 600 dollars on flavor.
