| So I may cash in on a new PC instead of the Xbox as the old Inspiron is.. well old..
I have in there a Mobile Intel Pentium 4, 1600 MHz but just 512 MB (DDR SDRAM) which I cannot upgrade. I drool over the potential 2GB of system memory out there, but what about the processor?
Dual-Core Intel Pentium or the Athlon 64 CNET goes AMD
Are there new chipsets coming out soon and I just better wait? _________________ 2nd place is the 1st loser

| | my recommendation is to head over to arstechnica.com and see what those guys say. They put out system guides for build your own systems every month. Check out the "Hot Rod" or the budget gaming box specs. There are also whole forums where people argue Intel vs. AMD so check it out. |

| Honestly check out Alienware and get the cheapest you can. they will even out the playing field with some nice acessories that will make it not matter except for price so go cheap. I have a laptop from alienware and a PC from Dell. The "extras" from alienware make the performance moot when it comes to AMD vs. Intel. so go cheapest. | I also have an alienware laptop and have been very pleased with it over the past years. Although I bought the model right before you could mess with your video card so now I'm outdated and can't do anything about it That said, even the cheaper models are a little pricey depending on your needs and budget, but if the cost fits they are great. |

| If you follow a build guide you will spend waaaay less money than you would on an Alienware, and could even end up with a better machine.
Alienware is overpriced imo. _________________ Dark Angels 1750 win/loss Record Win - 22 (The Dark Angels wiped some silly pod marines) Loss - 13 (Brice's Necrons wiped me) Draw - 2 (The 13th hold out in alpha take and hold)

| Alienware is more pricey compared to building your own but the tech support and warranty that comes with it plus the bells and whistles make it worth it. I spent 1500 on a laptop that rocks majorly with the ability to upgrade but i can play the latest games without issue. _________________ The footprints made in the sands of time are not made by sitting down... | I think you will notice that most of the individual parts that you build you own with come with warranties of there own. _________________ Dark Angels 1750 win/loss Record Win - 22 (The Dark Angels wiped some silly pod marines) Loss - 13 (Brice's Necrons wiped me) Draw - 2 (The 13th hold out in alpha take and hold)

| but you don't have to send the multiple parts to the different places just one, and they are prety quick in fixing and returning. _________________ The footprints made in the sands of time are not made by sitting down... Unless your playing Warhammer WAAAGH!

| I agree as I build computers for friends I do build from scratch cause of the price and worry about the warranty later but they don't overclock the comps like most of us gamers do... _________________ The footprints made in the sands of time are not made by sitting down... I'm with Matt on this one. I have built several of my own PCs and have yet to send a part back for warranty issues. Heck I have never had a part go bad.
Use quality brand names and you will be set. |
