Heyy Guys, i was looking around for the conversions out there out of intrest for what other people are doing. And i happened to stumble upon the most Amazing bit of Painting work i have ever seen, and it ispired me to actualy do some painting, and bloomin' mean it this time! (Thank you Jhon Gemrich, that is an amazing Predo Kantor)

What i plan to do is get some tips. i can already convert basic models into unique ones without the use of much greenstuff (A skill i am lacking) and i really need to learn how to spruce up my models and do them nicley, or it just goes to waste. taking my first tip, or rather 'Observation' i have done what Gem did, and use the SM Painter (V5.0 Beta) to put together my colour scheme.

Its a simple Scheeme, but i hope it will be Effective. im gonna use shadow Grey for the armour, and Dark Flesh for the Shoulderspads and Guns, a build up from Fernis Grey, and Scorched Brown.

(Im using Citadel Paints, any tips are Most welcome.

Onto the Models, i currently have 16, and i would like to apologise now, that the light is rubbish, and i only have a webcam at the moment >.>

My Force currently consists of

Tactical Squad - heavly going on the theme of combat squads. ~

(Assault Orentated, Grenades, Pistols Draw, Combat Knife, Specialist Wep)

(Range Orentated, Heavy Wep, Pistol/bolter Conversion -with recoil <3 -and Scopes, on has a Marksman Badge)

Command Squad

(Nothing Special, but there are a fair few conversions, going with -each is a mighty space marine- thing, love my Standard, any tips on Flags please?)

And My Captain, I got him for the Sprue ... Decided it wouldn't hurt to have another :3

And thats it, i hope to update this once a week, because im currently Training for the army (I leave in January) and im studing for my FINAL <3 GCSE.

P.S Hi there, and first post, woo? :3

You are most welcome

That would be a good target actualy, if you were going to have a painting group compatition winning orientated, i would have that as a sub sector of the group, like a single squad in a chapter :3, and then all the other squads are for different skill levels, so everyone can join in and be part, so then you get the best of both worlds, and a small comunity, and if the '1st company' X3 bring home the bacon, that would give the others drive to be better!...

I have a weird way of explaining things, so if you can't understand fully, its not you, its me D:

Okay. I managed to finaly get around all my business coursework, and am happy to say that i have passed, and am expecting a C. not bad for such a short time >.<

Here is what its begining to look like (Minus the Pouches, and shoulder gaurd highlights, and a Badab B wash and Chainmail highlight to the metals. I just wanted to show you Armour Razz still working around my Webcam problem, white sheets of paper increace the light, and i cleaned up the lens for better focus.

without further ado, my first update of my topic Razz heh, my white sucks, but it IS white.

Its hard to see the highlights because of my 'increaced light. so im gonna see if i can get a better shot of them, I do hard highlights, and the white was too white in the natural light thus i dulled it down a little. >.<

Here is that better shot Razz

Updates are more fun than i expected Razz, something to post! X3

P.S!
The dints in the left shooulder is Battle damage i added, and you will notice i have been pulling my rear in gear. i drilled out my bolters and bolt pistols ... and the melta ... and the plasma .... >.> Haha ... the banar bearer is preaty shot up too x3

I like them, though, just an observation, the color doesn't seem to quite be what is in your original post... was that intentional? Just curious because in your pictures, it looks like a light blue, and in your first post that you are going for a light aquamarine blue/green? Not saying it looks bad, just trying to see where you want to go with it

If you still want to go for the aquamarine blue/green, there is a turquoise color that GW makes (I think they still make it) and if you do a mixture of either Space Wolves Gray or Astronomica Gray, you may be able to use that as the main color.... Just a thought, if that's what you were wanting to go for.

Unfortunatly, i decided not to go with the turquisoe, and 'Hawk Turquiose' didn't cut the cheeze =P, i think the Fernis/Shadow grey worked quite well as a substitute and worked well with the Dark Flesh Shoulder inners :3, so after practicing on filled down spare bases, that kinda ~ Stuckand the white isn't true to the model on the picture, i recently gave it its final layers and its much better :3

Oh, ok. I didn't want to come across saying it looked bad or anything, I do like the color, I was just curious as to the status of the actual color vs. what you originally posted is all Smile I'm a process kind of guy, myself, and like to see/hear about the processes that others use.

Haha!, you won't learn much from me, im just bog standard, little ink use, solid highlights and good colour, i must admit im in the bad practice of thinking inks are cheating x3

But, i have to think of a NAME for the chapter still. The helmet and skulls on the modell are white, but the model is a soft blue/grey. and im not sure. ~ Shadow, something? or a long name, like the something of somewhere Razz

Just an update. This one is just really to show a finished model, not just the armour, the last one was very nearly finished, and just took a few small things to finish. this one is finished, and i wanted to show you my model. :3 and of course, a helmet wearing model, because its white.

Apologies if the helmet blends in whith the white paper a little. I recently took a detail shot of the models right side. HEre you can see my application of battle damage, the Chapter's alternate bolter detail colour. the hard highlights im using for the brown. and a little glimpse of the converted aquilla on the backpack

Update 2, 2 Marines done, any improvmets? any praise, what am i doing correct?, incorrect? AND

I need some help whith what sort of basing technique to use. i want one that goes with the model. because i wouldn't want to ruin em' Razz One model a day >.< im really starting to like these.

Looks like a good start. It is pretty clean. The eyes need some touch up.

First paint the eye black then do your green in the middle. Add a 50% yellow to your green and add a dot in the middle or back corner.

I think overall they could get another layer of highlight but that is taking it to the next level. I think the goal should be to finish the army to this level then start to "improve" units.

For a base I think sand.

1) Mix 3 sizes of Railroad ballast in a container. Small/Medium/Large (1 baggie of each from woodland scenics. Any color).

2) PVA (white) glue on and dip them in.

3). Then dark brown, followed with a dry brush of Beasty brown, followed with maybe plague brown dry brush.

4) Paint the edges black or Graveyard earth.

40K certainly doesn't need anything fancy for the troops.

Again, i have been Cracking on and gotten another three models done, a whole day (Saturday) to relax and paint, instead of my stead one a day ^.^

The Veteran Sargents Crux, very proud of it actualy, i havn't done Grey before really =P, also the laurals, and a red skull again, to show his rank (idea from the Ultramaries Red Helmets.

And the other grenade carrier. making me a five man squad. i never expected to paint so well. the Sargent model (not the bannar >.<) is to my local GW Staff standard! Heh <3

Thats probably going to be it for today. but im slowly chuging them out, eh? hopefuly not that bad for an amatur converter =P

Love the tips and help guys, cant thank ye enough!

Personally, I prefer them with the white helmet, it serves to "break up" the model more, considering the brown and blue are rather close compared to other 2-piece colors schemes.

I agree. keep the white helms. It adds a focal point to the model. Same reason I do mine white.

White helms will stay, and im currently thinking ahead to what my company champions gonna look like >.< one step at a time though.

Agreed. I like the white helmets. If you're concerned about the fluff at all, just make sure when you do your vets/elites that you give them some demarcation on their helmets to show that they're vets. Laurels, diff color, etc. The Blood Angels are a really good example of this, as their rank and file troops have red helms, devastators have blue, assault yellow, vets white, honor guard gold.

Keep it up!

Update:

Two more marines coming out of the paint line =P *Vrrrr, Pssh*

Heh heh .. Right, i wanted to put some spotlight on my Heavy in this update, u decided to do the rocket the same as the armour, but reversed clours, and it worked really well, he fits in perfectly with the scheeme, and stands out at the same time.

(Details)

Just a tip, DUCK! x3

Hope to get the FINAL THREE done way before the weekend, then crack on with my comand squad <3

Moving right along... nice effort!

Touch up those eyes (focal point) plus basing and you'll have a fine army there in no time..
