| More work on the dread... got the red done and the armor plates. On to the metals and then detail it out. |

Yeah 6 hours of studio a week for 4 of my classes and that is just 12 credit hours (24 hours a week.) Oh well, it all works out. Nice progress so far, i really want to see more of these guys! | |

| OLD SKOOL Update: Here are 5 of 10 in an old RT squad. Painted for TT play and still tweaking the recipes. Overall, I'm liking the layout and I think these will fit in despite the obvious lack of casting quality. Several mold errors made them a bit of a challenge to hide the flaws with paint. Hope you likey Upclose of the Sgt. This is the same figure as pictured in Apocalypse pg. 42. Note the helmet on his hip. I was asked about Veteran helmet color and the red inset will indicate the force vets. |

| I'm onto a Rhino and Tact squad of 10. Here is some WIP of the Rhino Any thoughts? I'm not in love with the scheme so I might vary it on other vehicles. Still need a few more coats on the base of white and red prior to highlights and shading. but it's enough to get the general feel. |

| One thing that might help with the white on the rhino, go over that area with the Astronomica Grey then a few coats of white! That's worked really well for me so far! | |

I use RMS - Aged bone. Kinda a mid tone grey. I thin the white significantly b/c it really shows if the paint is too thick. So, 2 coats of the grey followed by 4 or so of white should get me to where I need to be. Is the Astronomicon a "foundation" color? Might have to look into that. |

| yes, Astronomica Grey is a Foundation paint, and it coats with one brush over! Now, I usually don't water down the Foundation paints, as I use them for base colors. Cool thing is, if you have a really dark base, you can put, say, the AG on it and it will completely cover the undercoat, which, then, with white, you don't need to have it completely cover a dark color, you only have to cover the (in this case) extremely light grey, which is nice! | |

| When you are working on the regular troops are you pinning them to cork or something? | |

Some of the troops....Metal and ones that will go on a resin base are given a pin of brass rod in the foot. When I paint them I place them in a blade handle or pin vise. I have about 15 of these laying around. On page 2 you can see the "flying rhino and vindicator. They are pinned up currently but that was only for priming. This system lets me tackle most areas of the figure without handling them. the plastic SM troops are already on the base and I paint and go pretty quickly with them. Hope that answers your question. |

| I like the Smoke placements on the model. I'd suggest drilling the Storm Bolter and the 4 stacks as well. Keep it up! | |

| One of my painting tricks that I dont use because I dont paint is use 20oz. lids, I been doing this for years. Just put a small dab of super glue on opposite sides of the base and then sit mini on top, allows you roll it around in your fingers and hold upside down. To get them off just squeeze the lid and they pop right off, a quick scrape with a knife and BAM !!! done | |

| Here is my finished Rhino and Sgt for the 3 squad. I don't think I'll hit my June commitment as the other 9 marines still need highlights and guns. Only about an hour on the Sarge after base coating. I spent way too much time on the Rhino, playing with the airbrush and weathering. |

burned umber, then a yellow brown - in this case VMC ochre brown which is the same color I use to highlight the marines. Last I finish w bleached bone. You can take it up again w/ white/Bleach bone mix. it really is a case of where you put the highlights. IF I make a mistake I go back and line with umber. |
