Not full of myself, just attempting to keep our forums a good place to.

Poor grammar and spelling are avoidable by anyone over the age of 8. I'm really not kidding when I say there will have to be guidelines for people that are...

a) Spamming/derailing and killing threads.

- you can always make a new topic to discuss something new.

b) Making posts that are illegible or poorly constructed.

- All it takes is one proof read. It's not like you are reading a paper you wrote, it even highlights spelling mistakes in red.

Thanks guys! We are off to a good start here, let's make it even better.

CJ I bring this up as a serious issue in my eyes. I put a lot of effort in here so that people can enjoy this place.

Nothing anal about it, just asking for at least middle school standards in writing.

So please, don't derail my comments about derailing.

matt......this is just a forum.....if we are going to require at least an 8th grade standard around then we might as well dump it. Let's see....I've been out of school now 15 years?? Yea.....like I'm going to remeber. All I'm saying is that you need to loosen the belt buckle a lil bit and enjoy a burrito or two.

CJ, that is the exact sort of attitude that would hurt the forum here...

What is wrong with expecting moderate language skills in a forum post? If you talked to me in real life like you do on the forum, I wouldn't talk to you any more.

Answering my post by saying "this is just a forum" is pretty sad, it's still a place to communicate. Just because it exists on the internet doesn't mean people have the right to talk rudely or sloppily. If you interrupted something I brought up in real life with an unrelated topic I would not let you get away with it... Why should it be any different on the net?

Simply put, I do a decent amount of work to build this thing out... I would appreciate this small amount of effort on your end.

I will do 3 day bans for people spamming/derailing posts. Simple as that.

If that is an issue for people, they can build their own forums.

We can have something unique here, a forum where people don't derail and ruin things... All it takes is a little effort from our members.

so be it....you are forum god. Not everyone is in the smarts department on the same levels.

But the first time I get banned for mistakinly misspelling a word? I'm kicking ass and taking names. It's degrating to the induvidual. Your basically calling them stupid. FYI.....this is just a forum. A forum is for opinions. A forum is also for fun. Don't get me wrong, you have done a fantastic job getting this up and running. But this is just not your sight. It's our sight. We make it work....not just one person.

A forum is for opinions, luckily we live in a country that allows free speech. At the same time, this place has some rules.

One of them being, you should pay respect to other people who DO check their posts before hitting send.

Just because a forum is a place to say what you want, doesn't mean you have the right to kill a thread by saying something completely unrelated or rude.

It's not too hard, it even underlines misspelled words for you with a dotted red line. Not too hard to right click and select the correct spelling. I do it all the time.

Don't care about spelling/grammer, I just do that normally. Taking threads is not usually what people try to do, but it happens all of the time on perfectly good forums too. Twisted Evil

We are small enough to manage it. Saying you don't care about it does not qualify your actions (or make them right in any way).

So more courtesy will be appreciated, and somewhat required.

Making our forums a quality place to be, with quality threads is what it's all about. There are plenty of crap forums we could communicate over. Ours wont be.

I always try to have excellent spelling, punctuation and grammar. It really does make everything much nicer. It really is hard to read and understand posts that are written in chat-speak or are generally incoherent.

I'll try to stop my hijacking ways Master pirat Although I'm only ever commenting on something someone else brought up.

People actually used to make fun of me for it because I've never adopted any AIMspeak, so even when chatting I would spell everything out. My sister in law thought I must be some really weird english freak before she met me.

Good for you, that is one part of the battle here.

The other is constructing intelligent comments in response to peoples threads. If you have something to say that doesn't relate, take it to PM's or make a new thread!

while I try to do both it is easy to get side tracked while doing other things and you end up forgetting to check the spelling and such
