PostSubject: airbrushing   airbrushing EmptyTue Jun 24, 2008 12:33 am

So I know some of you guys have used airbrushes for larger models and vehicles. Any suggestions on how thin to make the paint and should I just thin it with water? I'm going to use something like the citadel paint unless someone has a better suggestion. Any tips are greatly appreciated

You should use an acrylic medium to thin paints to the conistency of milk.

GOLDEN makes an airbrush medium as do others. I've mixed the medium with water. I've also used Future floor wax and water 1:10

However, GW paints may not be well suited for the airbrush. The size of the pigment particle makes a difference in an airbrush. It is a fine instrument and can clog easily (I'm not talking about the GW gun here btw). I will say if you are doing large areas only and don't want detail work then GW may work OK properly thinned.

I recommend Vallejo Model Air. There is a good Ebay store that sells them if you know what color you are looking for you can pick 10 for $25.00

Vallejo also prints an equivalency chart on their site.

Equivalents:
Model Air to other brands starts at page 10. However, I don't know if GW has a comparison to FS so it might be tough to match the Model air to GW colors.

Wow thanks a bunch!! Yea I was concerned about the consistency of the GW paints with clogs so that answers that. Thanks.
