So....if I want to immerse myself in a some 40K fluff....which series is the best to pick up?

Is one book better then another?

Mind you....I am and always have been a HUGE reader so poor writing, bad plot lines, crappy character development is a little expected but I'm really searching for the pick of the lot.

Totally read the Horus Heresy series. I'm on the 6th book right now, and I am charging through them. They're really, really good.

ciaphas cain is a good choice as well as the gaunts ghost series. I liked the space wolves omnibus, but i'm a wolfy person.

Going to have to second the Space Wolf Onimbus, it starts out before Ragnar is a marine so you get a good look into the making of a space wolf and a marine. There are currently 5-6 in the series so not much to leave you hanging for your first couple books.

After that for a single read book, Storm of Iron, hands down my favorite...who doesnt like a good chaos smashing.

Anything by Dan Abnett is GOLDEN!

The Gaunts Ghosts series and Double Eagle are awsome!

I'm surprised Matt hasn't jumped on and said Eisenhorn or Ravenor, both good series.
