| I am having a lot of problem playing my Tau. I really wanna know how to use them it is just that it gets so frustrating losing 95% of the time. Please if anyone can help it would be very appreciated. I have read through a ton of Tau Tactica stuff and still seem to be coming up short. If there is someone out there that can help please. | |

| Personally, and I'm no Tau expert, I think you don't run enough XV8s. The most successful Tau lists I've seen run a ton of them. | |

and how have you been defeated? wiped out, lost objectives, etc? I have been playing the missions. The last game I played I understand that the annihilation and halves is a horrible mission for Tau. It was close even though we both forgot lots of tyranid rules. Had they been remembered I would have been annihilated out right. Most of my games are straight first turn or two ok then I get wiped out. - Quote :

I have ran lists of heavy Tau XV8's and even then I am still getting wiped. Its worse though now for using them because I may be able to contest with them I can't control anything with them. - Quote :

I'll give you a demo JT if we can arrange a date. I would love to arrange a demo. What do you mean XV8s are pants in 5th?

| Don't take this badly, but it seems you just have a lack of play time... or a lack of knowledge when it comes to playing different armies. I'd just keep playing if i was you, soon enough you'll notice things you didnt... or rules you haven't been using accurately and so on. Tau really are a decent army in 5th, I think you may just not have played or won much in general. Don't go all CJ on us Stick with em and you will see improvement. I bet a demo with marc will help more than we could on here. | |

| I suggest reading up on your army AND other armies, alot of the good players on the board put a lot of work into being good at the game (and i guess sean just plays cheesy orks ) By knowing what your opponent can do and what you can even better you'll have a better go of it. | |

| In the past I relied on victory point conservation by hiding all them XV8s behind area terrain. We all know that no longer is viable.. You're gonna have to reread the codex with 5th edition in mind. Make yourself forget about what worked in the past or what Tau Forums try to feed you. Seriously.... 1. Delete/toss/burn all your lists. 2. ReRead the 5th edition ruleset 3. ReRead Codex: Tau Empire 4. Write in the margin the strengths & weaknesses of each unit as it relates to 5th. I also like to note a tandem unit. 5. Write a 1500pt hard as nails list. Add 250pt of JT units. Voila.. It really is that simple - JTPitt wrote:

You'll be able to answer that yourself soon enough.

| I find XV8s to be annoying on the other side of the table. They just keep playing keep away. Only Necrons inspire the black rage in me more than crisis suits.
This guy Kevin used to play over at Acme with Farsight and a full retinue and just duck in and out of cover shooting to stay out of LOS and then when the enemy closed in Farsight would usually mop them up or at least break even in CC. It seemed to work pretty well.
That's harder to do now, but you can still use them to bait assault armies and I'm pretty confident that they can beat anything else in a shooting war.
I'd like to run Tau some time and see what I can do with it... Could be a challenge.

To be honest... this is a huge reason you probably aren't doing well. Why not own the rulebook for one of the main games you play? Price isn't an issue anymore with Black Reach in the wild. ... you crazy kids.
