Actually, John. The FAQ says I'm right.

"Q: When a model has multiple pieces of armour are the armour
saves always combined?(p43)
A: Yes."

read the part about paired weapons.

now your just begging....stop it....its un-becoming. In order for all the armor saves to combine, the armor being combined has to be LEGAL. Your two one handed weapons requires two hands to use. Therefore you cant have the shield, therefore it cant combine, therefore no extra armor save. Sorry, this ones over...dont get me wrong I would love to be able to use great weapons and get an armor bonus, but it aint happening.

paired weapons have the Extra Attack and the Requires Two
Hands special rules.”

Requires Two hands page 75 essentially states No shield in Close Combat.

I think it's clear that they don't intend the armor bonus to be used in close combat.

I am, however, pointing out that they have NOT expressed that clearly in the written rules AND they have done a very poor job of fixing their original mistake.

yeah, yeah, yeah, and the sky is pink and no one can tell you otherwise. I have a brother-in-law that you would get along great with . It is pretty clear to me, they only cheese they left in is that paired weapons can be used mounted where extra hand weapon can't be.
