GW has dropped the ball on this one!
Not happy that the scenarios are not anything special. Have you ever played fantasy in a tourney? I'm not trying to sound like a dick or anything, but fantasy is always about crushing the army in front of you. It's about maneuvering and positioning and such. What would you do if you were a dwarf player and you had to claim objectives? You'd lose. It's been this way for the past three editions...You want "fancy" scenarios, you should be playing 40K. Specialist scenarios take away from the core of what Fantasy is. My army coming to the table to crush your army.

| Just comparing to previous years of RTT supplied and GT Scenarioes. I am not saying they have to be claim objectives but maybe use some more imagination than standard scenarios in the rulebook.
Not anything too funky either just something different.

| Fair points! GW is playing conservative as these are the first 'Ard Boyz under a new edition.

| True I can see that being a good reason with a new edition. Would be nice if the scenarios were clear as to how the game is supposed to be setup... Circular reference to nothing, and confusing setup as it refers to a page number then shows adifferent deployment on the sheet. 5 pieces of terrain and doesnt make it clear if it is only supposed to be Hills and forests but hey thats why we are playing the scenarios early to get the bugs worked out. and The typos are driving me nuts!!! They even misspelled Tournament on the GW Website for Ard Boyz... Try not to laugh too hard when you confirm this!!! | |

You still roll for the actual terrain pieces, you just don't roll for the random "number" of pieces of terrain. No fancy hills, and all forests are mysterious. Doesn't seem too complex to me. - makari wrote:

You use the standard mission deployment rules found for the missions listed for each scenario, with the Deployment of said scenario modified to match the deployment zone listed on the scenario. So...Round one: 5 pieces of terrain, rolled off the "random terrain" chart using the "Dawn Attack" mission , using the modified deployment zones on the scenario. Yes, that means you roll for each unit, and deploy it in the correct portion of the scenario. And the other two scenarios are handled the same way. The question is, how is the terrain going to be handled in terms of what is actually on the board? Is every table going to have the same "stuff" every round?

| Actually, if you look at the scenarios, it shows you where to put the terrain pieces. Nothing random. I think they do that to keep things fair across the board for all players. | |

| We were looking at them last night and it appears that on each table is three hills and two forests. Each scenario has the placement of those terrain pieces already listed. The one difference in setup compared to the book is that there's one where you would set up diagonally to each other. in this case you will still be setting up on the long table edge.
I will say that it is pretty damned poor that GW didn't identify and update the PDF that they release with the scenarios. Specifically where they list what counts as a draw.
I wont be able to play after all because I have to work. I will be coming by right after work to help out however I can. Carl

| After carefully going over the scenarios and reading the rulebook here is how i interpret the set up: a) Each table will have 5 pieces of terrain (Ard boyz Scenario) b) The Terrain will come from the store stock of terrain chosen by the store I would think in a tourney setting. (BRB pg 142, rolling on the table is optional so is not the standard) c)Rules for each piece of terrain will be clearly marked. (BRB pg 142) d) Looks like in years passed the players placed terrain (Previous Ard boyz RTT Rules and its in the BRB pg142) Scenario 1: Dawn Attack is on pg 145 BRB no issues here really... Scenario 2: Says Battleline bur refers you to pg.146 BRB which is Battle for the pass. Epic Fail... Same references to scenario 1 rules page 145... Same Game length for all 3 right or wrong however Battle for the Pass has a special Rule taht the others do not. and the Deployment is not the same... Scenario 3: Meeting Engagement pg 149 (they got it right ) Again all rules refer to page 145 of the 1st scenario mission on pg 145. Meeting engagement shows a completely different deployment then what the book shows. Epic Fail again... So the question on this one is Do we follow the book or the Scenario sheet? 2 options here as I see it: a)Scenario Sheet is 12" pitched battle deployment, renders the special rule of using Reserves useless unless your army allows you to use reserves. The sheet overrides the Deployment section of the meeting engagement. Nothing new about the scenario, just pitched battle. b) Meeting engagement pg 149 BRB Diagonal deployment, ignore the 12" deployment on sheet, and use the deployment on pg 149... and apparently GW is getting annoyed by people calling and asking about the scenarios so Keep Calling everyone!!! 18003944263 | |

| No store will have the exact terrain that is in the pictures and pictures are not rules just guidlines. I do not believe that everytable will have just hills and trees. but will have different terrain, but if trees and hills are used they are Mysterious trees and plain hills. | |

| In order to help Clint streamline roster checking I will be bringing the laptop with army builder on it to egc tonight. If you don't have armybuilder please consider stopping by tonight and putting in your list to have it verified and printed. I personally do not want to have to read chicken scratch written lists to figure out what people are playing with. My hand writing is very bad so I understand. and do you really want to be the guy that added something wrong and were over by 1 point and get disqualified? or didnt get your %'s right? | |

| Yay! Thanks to Clint and Eastside for running the event. And thanks for letting me run a tab! First game I played against Joseph and his Dwarfs. it was a very close game but in the end, after a very rough fifth turn, I was able to pull out a Minor Victory, and grabbed a large amount of Battle points. Second game was against William and his Dwarfs. YES! another dwarf player...playing an almost identical list. After swallowing the fact that I will not have a magic phase...again...I was pretty happy about this paring. I knew what to expect and was ready for it. It was a "normal" set up and I had my plan. It was a closer game than the score would have you believe, but I ended up with maximum points and a massacre in my favor. Third game was against Clint and his beastmen, running the Minotaur Deathstar unit. The Deathstar unit ended up in reserve due to mission scenario whatever, so I had the game in the back from turn one. As soon as I dropped the two wizards, it was open game on beastmen. Again, massacre with all battle points. Or at least that is what I was told when I was there. I guess later on I was told I didn't get one of the battle points or something. Anyway, I believe I ended up killing something like 7800ish total victory points, with dead generals and battle standard bearers and units everywhere. I had a blast in all my games, and I hope my opponents felt the same. Poor William and his dice man. They left him high and dry about two rolls into the third round of our game. My list: Grey Seer on bell with Feedback scroll, general Warlord on Rat Ogre with 4+ ward, weeping blade, shield, tail weapon, rat hound 35 Stormvermin w/ full command + warp fire thrower (for Grey Seer's bell) 32 Stormvermin w/ full command + warp fire thrower (for Warlord) 2 units of 36 clan rats w/ full command + ratling gun Plague Priest, level 2, dispell scroll, Plague Furnace, Flail 35 plague monks w/ full command (to push the furnace) 2 doom wheels Plague Claw Catapult 10 Poisoned Wind Globadiers w/ the unit champ. I am not 100% sure on everything in the list, as I don't have it exactly in front of me, but I think that's it. Honestly, it's a semi-soft list, comparatively speaking. There will be some changes made for the next round. I have some weaknesses, like getting to warmachines (made painfully obviously against two dwarf players) and character killing. Nothing like having a unit of Stormvermin pushing a Bell not being able to drop a single Dwarf Lord on shield bearers. And I don't care what everyone else things/says/whatever. I love my Plague Claw Catapult. It's awesome. Anyway, I had a blast. I guess now it's time to start training for Regionals...or whatever the heck the next round is.

The one that was in question was where the general was killed. It needed to be one general killing the other in order to achieve it. Regardless, very well done and congratulations!
