Grand Alchemist Tower WIP photos to final project

Grand Alchemist Tower was created by me and came 2nd in TerraGenesis Anything Goes Competition.

L hallucination de l alchimiste Also known as The Hallucinated Alchemist by Georges Melies in 1897 was partially the inspiration for this piece. The Tower stands 39" tall while the base is 18" x 12". The base is a 3/4" piece of plywood that is covered in coarse sand, coffee grounds, oregano, bits of Styrofoam for the smaller rocks, woodland scenics medium green bushes and tall grass. The spiraling rock spire is created out of polystyrene insulation foam, which leads to the first structure, the cottage. The cottage is built out of balsa wood and foam core after removing the paper from the top layer of the foam core. The stain glass in the windows are made from clear plastic packaging, painted on the inside and then drawn on the outside with a thin sharpie. The gears were cut by hand out of styrene and the support beams are 1/8" styrene. The steam boiler is a vitamin bottle with clothes hangers for pipes. The two towers are created from oatmeal containers covered with foam core with the top layer of paper removed, and the foam carved. The ladders are balsa wood. The orrery is created from a lighting fixture. The arms are made from the eighth inch styrene and the globes are macrame beads. Scaled for 28 mm miniatures. The tower presents a steam punk ambiance rooted firmly in a fantasy setting.

Very nice, you really seem to have a knack for that sort of thing. I really like the stone steps and the bubbling pool!

Looking good! I'm very surprised it came in 2nd in a Terrain Genesis competition, guess I'll have to check out the one that came in first. Been a while since I've been there anyway.

Absolutely amazing build, particulary since most of the pieces look to be hand made.

However, as somebody who lives in a house with a lot of stairs I just feel obligated to point out that no old wizard would live in such a thing. So obviously the old bit is a front, and really he's a beautiful woman looking to learn magic w/o a lot of other wizards poking about.

Dude your terrain is boss! Hopefully you'll come up to Art of War on Saturday and bring some of this beautiful stuff with you.
