PostSubject: 1750 Grey Knights W/ Guard   Mon Mar 09, 2009 11:30 am

The point of this list is to help take out the heavy items and tanks along with fire support for the GK. I figured two mortar teams should help with anti troops. The Lascannons will take care of the tanks, and the land raiders will act as roving bunkers to get my GK's in to the fray.

HQ
Grand Master - 185 x 1 - Icon Just, Master Crafted Weapon
Grey Knight Term - 194 x 4 - Incinerator

Troops
Grey Knight - 275 x 8 - Incinerator
Grey Knight Just x 1 - Teleport Homer, Melta Bomb

Grey Knight - 275 x 8 - Incinerator
Grey Knight Just x 1 - Teleport Homer, Melta Bomb

IG Platoon
Junior Officer - 55 x 1 - Laspistol, CCW
GuardsMen x 4 - Mortar Team, Lasguns

Guardsmen - 91 x 9 - Lascannon, Lasguns
Veteran Sgt x 1 - Laspistol, CCW

Guardsmen - 91 x 9 - Lascannon, Lasguns
Veteran Sgt x 1 - Laspistol, CCW

Guardsmen - 76 x 9 - Mortar Team, Lasguns
Sgt x 1 - Laspistol, CCW

Heavy
GK Land Raider - 250 x 1

GK Land Raider Crusader - 255 x 1

oooh...kinda like a list I had......dump a LR and throw in some Sentinals with Lascannons.......more anti Tank power and can still mow through to get your other LRC up to the front and plow through troops.

I am keeping the second LR because he packs a punch with 2 tl lascannons. Also it helps the GK's survive the trek across the board.

id be tempted to swap those mortors out for either a heavy bolter or a autocannon for each about the only thing I see that I would change

I would agree with Frost. The mortar isn't all that spectacular (at least when I've used it). I have one mortar in my IG list, but it's part of my command unit. Other than that, I have 10 Autocannons, 2 lascannons, 2 missile launchers and 1 mortar team

He he he, I have a mortar/sniper rifle pin list for the IG thats very effective, it's a good way for a comman or line unit to do something, while they hide away. I never leave without my mortars.

Maybe one less Termie here and without Incinerator. I'd hate for you to flame that last model removed of which distances the enemy just out of your charge reach.

Troops
Grey Knight - 275 x 8 - Incinerator
Grey Knight Just x 1 - Teleport Homer, Melta Bomb

Grey Knight - 275 x 8 - Incinerator
Grey Knight Just x 1 - Teleport Homer, Melta Bomb

Damn those soak up the points. I hope they work out for you.

IG Platoon
Junior Officer - 55 x 1 - Laspistol, CCW
GuardsMen x 4 - Mortar Team, Lasguns

Guardsmen - 91 x 9 - Lascannon, Lasguns
Veteran Sgt x 1 - Laspistol, CCW

Guardsmen - 91 x 9 - Lascannon, Lasguns
Veteran Sgt x 1 - Laspistol, CCW

Guardsmen - 76 x 9 - Mortar Team, Lasguns
Sgt x 1 - Laspistol, CCW

I like the thought of Inducted Guard here. That said, I do not like the Lascannons or Mortars. Probably the last 2 Heavy Weapons I'd put on Guard these days. A Missile Launcher would be nice thanks to scatter. Go Krak if armour presents. Heavy Bolter for hordes. Autocannon for Walker and APC hunting.

Heavy
GK Land Raider - 250 x 1

GK Land Raider Crusader - 255 x 1

Solid. Best used in pairs..

Yea i can see what you are talking about with the Incinerator. Why would you drop one of the Termies though?

Yea they do soak up a lot of points and am hoping with the paired land raiders they will make safely and do their jobs.

The role the guards are playing is for APC. How come the Lascannon would be a bad idea for that. I can see the mortars being bad but how come no on the lascannons. As a side note I added a plasma gun to every unit of IG.

Mortars are ok and I prefer them to Missle launchers although the missle launcher is a bit more flexible for frag and krak but the pinning and indirect fire of a mortar is hard to skip...

Good, you've decided on a specific role for those two heavy weapon teams: Anti-APCs.. now lets build them accordingly. For 20 less points you can go for two Autocannon. Same range as a Lascannon with a second shot at a lower strength, but still high enough for APCs. I'm sure someone can run the math of four S7 shots vs two S9 shots @BS3 vs an AV11 Rhino front.

My assumption is the Autocannon will perform with equal or better results at almost half the price. Should trump vs AV12 as well..

Summons for mathammer have brought me back from the warp.....

Against AV11 an autocannon will have the same average effect as a lascannon for BS3. They will both penetrate 1/3 of the time they fire and glance 1/6 of the time for a total of 1/2 the time they do something.

Against AV12 the lascannon becomes slightly better, pening 1/4 of the time to the autocannon's 1/6 of the time. They will both still glance 1/6 of the time.

So for an anti rhino-chimera platform the autocannon is superior. It's even better against AV10 things like trucks and is cheaper.

IG Platoon
Junior Officer x 1 - 55 - Laspistol, CCW
GuardsMen x 4 - Autocannon, Lasgun

Guardsmen x 9 - 75 - Autocannon, Lasgun
Sergeant x 1 - Lasptisol, CCW

Guardsmen x 9 - 75 - Autocannon, Lasgun

I could be wrong but I think you have to have 3 squads plus the Command squad for a platoon minimum... Anychance you looked at armored fist squads?

My set up is correct. 1 command squad and 2 regular squads is the minimum.

So.... I don't know how many folks care....but rumors are about that GW may be working on plastic Grey Knights.....

Forget where I read it, but it was from someone that does commission work for GW.

Talked about potential Grey Knight Chappies too.

Interesting.

If they come out with Grey Knight Chappies they will be one sick individual. Mind you all the Grey Knights are as strong psychically as most Chappies, so for one Grey Knight Chaplain they must be sick. It does seem fitting they would have a Chaplain in battle with them though.
