| Which would be better Quarrellers, Rangers, or Thunderers? I'm starting up my throng but need a few ideas on exactly what to do. I have the battle for skull pass starter army, so not much. any help appreciated. | |

| I think they are all awesome!
Seriously I would say that Thunderers are probably the best. A great cheesed out dwarf army would be like all thunderers with some bolt throwers behind.
I like to turn quarrelers into rangers too and stick them in a wood to annoy the enemy into charging them.
Thunderers are usually just better than straight quarrelers though....

| Thunderers are really awesome, with the exception of the fact that they have a shorter range, so against certain opponents (like Elves) they might suffer some... Backing them up with Bolt Throwers are pretty nice though! | |

| Yeah, I know. You're not supposed to tempt me with such things when I don't have cash for Warhammer. P.S. You should get back into pumping out ebay armies cause now my warhammer funds source has dried up | |

| If you are looking to expand let me know I have an extra warriors box from a Battalion box and a fairly extensive selection of other dwarfs I am way over stocked on. | |

| At WoHoG I got in a lot of games against George and others who dabbled in the Dwarves when the current army book came out. So before saying anything about Quarrellers vs Thunderers there's something about range combat that needs saying.
Don't over invest in shooting. The main purpose is to soften enemy units, disscourage mauvering of super lone indavidual character/monsters, kill. Generally in that order unless the opponent is dumb enough to put his general or super character right in front of your army.
Personally I like Thunders from a fluff point. They have handguns and who doesn't like loud noises and foes falling down?
In a practical sense Quarrellers being able to move, better range, and cost have a bigger advantage in a general sense. In short they are more tactical.
Consider a mix of both. The dwarf strategy and opponents skill will basically determine what models to use. For instance if the Dwarf player knows for a fact that the enemy will have to go along a certain path (perhaps at a warmachine battery) some Thunders can do rather well. If the enemy has excellent flanking manuverablity and the dwarf player doesn't want to just give up the flank then Quarrellers are the course.
With my last book and a fast VC army enemy shooty used to be fast points for me. There's still some tricks that should work but the days of my Direwolves (who counted as core) doing fast charges and locking the shooters up for a next turn charge by a dragon or black knights is pretty much over.
