| Well, after assembling the 30 ork boyz and starting paiting the 3 Nobz I bought from makari, I figured it was about time to start on my Deff Dread idea. First off, I decided that i was going to combine the CC arm of the SM dread with the Deff Kopta blade. The Mechs had a field day with this, as I added a few bits here and there to the arm to make it a little more Orky, along with some chain I bought at Michael's today. Also, them nasty orkses hacked an X on the front of the dread's front plate! Then, they hacked together a Rokkit Launcha from the MultiMelta from the dread. Now, I've got some auctions from Ebay coming with a drive from the Trukk and some other random bits, though, I do still need to get a wreaking ball (which I will attach to the Rokkit Launcha arm), and some Ork exhaust stacks to complete the build. Any thoughts or comments on it so far?

| The concept is not to bad, but if it were me doing it I would put some considerable damage on the sarcophagus part of the dread seeing how that is the part that houses the wounded marine showing that he has been removed or some how killed. (look how sm dreads are made in some fluff if you are unsure what I am talking about) and put some kind of orc driving the new dread. I think following some kind of protocol when doing conversions is needed in a highly fluffed environment. If not you look like you are just grabbing random bits (i understand that is what orcs do) from your box and gluing them to your model. I have seen a few ways to do that., either put a driver in the sarcophagus area or make a control/riding harness for him to sit. Just my two cents | |

| lots of panels would be sweet, panels bolted on to make it more 'ard would be very orky! | |

| Chad, this is just the beginning I have a Trukk driver bitz coming from ebay (hopefully today or tomorrow) and I still need to get other bitz to finish it off. I definitely know what you mean, and I'm going to go all out trying to get it as Orkish as possible Matt, I was thinking about this when I was getting the chain for the CCW, what exactly (other than orky bitz) would be the best way of getting the bolted look? | |

| I'm w/ Chad on the driver. I think we need to know that some Ork has removed the previous occupant and taken over management of the vehicle.
I would also cut down the chopper blades. Very jagged, making them look as if there has been some attempt to sharpen or make them more deadly.
and per Matt's suggestion (Panels)*(rivots) = extra Orky
Areas of opportunity for paneling - protecting the normally exposed upper legs. The right shoulder. |

| Orky look is pretty easy.
Plasticard cut to the panel shape you want. Cut nicks and scratches in it.
Then cut plastic rod of the desired diameter in small pieces and glue in place as rivots.
You can also make rivots w/ GS or even CA glue but it's a little more time intensive. |

| I'm happy I got the bitz from my eBay auctions today and I got a lot more work done! Ok, front of the dread (I'll make a few comments as I go along too). Dagthrakka Dek was a tankbusta in the Third War for Armageddon. During battle with the Raptors Space Marine chapter, Dek was able to score a killing blow to the Raptor Dreadnought Brother Thero. In the aftermath of the battle, a Dok and a Mek got together and decided that Dek should claim the Space Marine dread as his own, and together they spliced wiring into both Dek and the Dreadnought. Once grafted together, Dek and the Dreadnought exacted some revenge on the Mek that decided to put him through the grafting process. Then, he forced the Dok to attach the Mek's head to the front of the Dread (hence, you will see an Ork skull below the Dread faceplate). Decorated with other trophies he has acquired in battle, he stomps around, making things go squish! So, you will see that there are a number of trophies, one head, three SM helmets, an ork skull. Also, I used Nob shoulder pads as covers for the leg joints, and ork iconz on the panels on the lower legs. Also, I used.... well, I don't know what it is.... on the front panel from the Ork Boyz box. Also, from the truck, I used what looks like a metal banner of some sort to go on the CCW arm. THen, the driver has metal bars going down from the handles he's holding to make it look like he has the ability to shift gears and what not from the inside. Also, I have two wires running into the drivers arms (real wires from a computer case fan). Also, I added a scope to the Rokkit Launcha and then took another wire from it and ran it into the side of the Rokkit Launcha. Also, I replaced the bit on the lower left hand side of the main torso of the Dread with a light from the Deff Kopta. I trimmed down the blades (unevenly) and trimmed up the edges of them to make them look sharpened. When I paint it that will stand out a bit. There is an X scrawled into the Imperial skull with wings, and that's where it will say WAAAGH! Lastly, you can see the main damage hole in the front on the left side of the torso, but I also added one by the ork skull on the very front. So..... If I were to try and add a wreaking ball to the Rokkit Launcha site of it, would that be too much?? Now, if you noticed the gap in the side pictures between the front and back of the dread, good for you I haven't glued it all together yet, so that's from the fact that it isn't connected yet. Any thoughts? | |

| these new pictures look soo much better/orky than the first set.. i like it a lot.. she suggestion for chopping the blades made it look better, but i would say do it again, but make it short uneven strokes.. think Native American arrow head look... Also imho the ork seems to in the open and unarmoured..
again just my opinion at 630am... haha | |

| Thanks, John altahara, I had already started painting by the time I read your post, and so, I'm pretty close to being done with the modifications because of that... I made the Ork seem a little exposed just to show that my Orks don't care about their safety all that much. Not all that much different than the look of the Warbikes where they aren't protected by all that much, but it still gives them two wounds.... Anyhow, here is a WIP painting shot: (I've got a bunch of touchup and highlights to do, and the yellow I'm not all that happy with yet. I also need to paint markings in places as well) | |

| Not sure about all that green. My eyes go straight for the helmets picking up the only real warm colours on the model (the red shoulder is directly under the helmets as well) Instead of repainting the entire dread you could repaint certain plates or simply redo the helmets... hmm... | |

| That model is friggin awesome man. I would have to agree with Marc about the helmets and the shoulder. It pulls your eyes directly to them and away from the center of the model. I would tone those down some and make a bright contrast with the WAAGH!!!! writing. | |
