I'm interested in learning how to play the warmachine game Hordes but i don't know what book to buy. My local game store has a copy of Hordes Evolution is that the one I start with?

No, if you want to get a rulebook get Hordes: Primal or Warmachine: Prime Remix, depending on which system you want to focus on.
Realistically, if you get a battle box you don't need any rulebook because the rules that come with them are fairly comprehensive.

At Sci-Fi City things were recently moved around to feature WArmachine & Hordes in its own 4 foot section of shelving. Everyone say thank you to Caila next time you see her at the store.
